Product Description

Product Description

Note:The Nikwax Tx. Direct Spray On May come With or Without the Nozzle based on the quantity .

Manufacturer's Description

Tx Direct Spray-On is spray-on waterproofing for wet weather clothing. TX Direct Spray-On adds durable water repellency and revives breathability.

Why breathability depends upon water repellency...

Breathable waterproof garments are most likely to get sweaty and wet inside when used in damp or wet conditions. If the outer fabric absorbs water, the garment can lose up to 70% of its breathability. Therefore, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) on the outer fabric of your jacket must be maintained to ensure comfort. It will eventually wear off and need to be renewed with Nikwax TX.Direct®.

Waterproof clothing needs to be breathable...

When we work hard, we sweat. The evaporation of sweat cools us down and keeps us comfortable. But, when it rains we want to avoid getting wet, so we put on waterproof outerwear to keep us dry. The waterproof fabric must allow moisture vapour to pass through it, or ‘breathe’; otherwise our sweat cannot evaporate, causing us to overheat and get wet from condensation. Additionally, if the outer fabric of your garment absorbs water and ‘wets out’ its breathability will be reduced, causing you to feel clammy and wet.

Nikwax TX.Direct® adds Durable Water Repellency (DWR), which prevents water absorption, whilst maintaining breathability, keeping you dry and comfortable.

Breathable, waterproof clothing is for active, outdoor people...

Anyone who is active outside in damp or wet conditions will benefit from breathable waterproof clothing. Whether you’re a mountaineer, cyclist, dog walker, or you work outside as a farmer or surveyor, you will need good raingear.

Use Nikwax TX.Direct® when your raingear soaks up water...

Your raingear could be soaking up water just because it is dirty. First, try cleaning it with Nikwax Tech Wash®, and if it is fairly new, or recently re-waterproofed, the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) will be revitalised just from cleaning. But, once the garment has been thoroughly worn, you will need to add DWR, using Nikwax TX.Direct®, after cleaning first with Nikwax Tech Wash®.

Breathable raingear with wicking linings need Nikwax TX.Direct® Spray-On to maintain performance...

Alternative waterproofing products are often solvent-based aerosols; alternatively, they may be water-based and use fluorocarbons. Aerosol products are flammable. Fluorocarbons pose a potential risk to the environment and to the long-term health of the consumer. Nikwax TX.Direct® Spray-On is a safe product to use on breathable waterproof items with wicking linings, or those that can’t be machine washed. It is WaterBased, non-flammable, contains no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and is fluorocarbon free. Nikwax TX.Direct® Spray-On can be applied to the outer face fabric of waterproof clothing, providing Durable Water Repellency (DWR) without compromising internal wicking properties. It has been specifically designed and optimised for breathable waterproof clothing, providing DWR whilst maintaining breathability. Nikwax TX.Direct® requires no heat to develop its DWR, so it is not necessary to use a tumble drier for best results. As garments with taped seams get older the tape adhesion weakens, becoming more fragile and susceptible to heat, so it is best to avoid tumble drying.

If your raingear doesn’t have a wicking lining, use Nikwax TX.Direct® Wash-In...

Using the right waterproofing product is important. Nikwax TX.Direct® Spray-On is fantastic for raingear with wicking linings, as it provides Durable Water Repellency (DWR) without impairing wicking properties. However, if wicking linings aren’t present, using Nikwax TX.Direct® Wash-In ensures you won’t miss any areas (complete DWR coverage!) and it’s easy to apply in a washing machine.

How Nikwax TX.Direct® Spray-On protects...

Nikwax TX.Direct® Spray-On is easy and quick to apply, and its highly Durable Water Repellency (DWR) develops on air drying. The need for tumble drying is removed, this saves energy and protects more vulnerable, older, garments from heat. Nikwax TX.Direct® Spray-On has been specifically designed and optimised for breathable waterproof garments; it leaves a flexible water repellent treatment on individual fibres allowing moisture vapour to pass through, maintaining breathability. The spray-on application allows for direct treatment of areas which require it most (e.g. elbows and seams on jackets) and will not compromise the properties of internal wicking liners.

Like all Nikwax products, TX.Direct® is safe to use...

Nikwax takes great care to minimise the effect of Nikwax products on the environment and on you, the consumer. Nikwax waterproofing products are WaterBased, non-aerosol, non-flammable, non-hazardous and environmentally friendly. They contain no harmful solvents or volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and are completely free of fluorocarbons (which have been shown to be persistent in the environment and have been associated with serious health issues).

People who use Nikwax TX.Direct® say that it does the job...

Nikwax TX.Direct® is the product of choice of professional Outdoor trainers. To find out more about people who are using Nikwax TX.Direct®, and other Nikwax products, take a look at our testimonials page on our home page.

    - Protect working surface and lay clean wet fastened garment flat.
    - Hold bottle 15cm/6 inches away from garment.

    - Wait for 2 minutes. Remove any surplus product with a damp cloth.
    - Check carefully to ensure no areas have been missed.

Had washed my skiing kit in normal washing powder in error before reading that this was a surefire way of losing the waterproofing. Washed the suit again in NikWax Tech Wash, and then sprayed it with this TX Direct, and it was as good as new. Went skiing and had more snow than ever before, but everything remained completely waterproof and dry. Would definitely recommend it. Had read that it was messy to apply, but I laid the kit out on a couple of towels on the kitchen floor to spray it, and didn't find it a problem at all.

First of all I must mention that if you are ordering this from Amazon beware the small print in the Amazon Product Description. I quote:
"Note:The Nikwax Tx. Direct Spray On May come With or Without the Nozzle based on the quantity ."
I ordered the 1 ltr size recently and the picture (at the time) clearly showed a bottle with a nozzle, but it came without one. It would be vastly more helpful if the description stated which quantities were provided with a spray nozzle and which were not. Either that or have two separate product items: one with a spray nozzle and another one clearly described as a refill.

Having said that, the product has worked well for me on both walking and skiing clothing, though it is a messy business applying it and I generally do it outside on a calm day and lay the garment on a plastic garden table. The job cannot be done in a hurry as it really takes time and effort to carefully spread the sprayed on liquid evenly over the whole garment, as it obviously initially runs off the peaks and pools in crevices. It you miss any patches or coat them insufficiently then the rain will always find them. Also it must be allowed to dry thoroughly before use. Don't try doing this just before you go out for a walk in the rain!

Been using Nikwax products for years to periodically top up waterproofing at the beginning of wet season on my waterproof gear. Also great for bags and anything else that could use help repelling water. Make sure you test the fabric first though!

excellent product! thought i had ruined my new coat by scrubbing a stain out. a spray with nikwax soon repaired the waterproofing of my coat, and it's like new again.

OK, here we go......
Let me get this out of the way first. I followed the instructions to the letter.
I purchased the 5ltr container because I wanted to "waterproof" 1 tent, two textile motorcycle jackets, two motorcycle textile trousers, and two pairs of motorcycle textile gloves.
All items were practically soaked with the product, and left to air dry.
When completely dry, I tested all items with the "pour water from a jug" test. The water beaded off. I thought money well spent.
This afternoon we had a fantastic thunder storm with downpour to match.
Quickly nipped upstairs, put on my bike kit - complete with helmet, boots and gloves.
I'm going to give this a proper test - well a walk to the bottom of the garden and back (around 120' all in all).
Results?
OK, here we go.
Head - dry!
Feet - dry!
The rest - only dry because of the waterproof lining already built into my kit.
This product did nothing at all to repel water. Looks like it can cope with a trickle from a jug, but a good 'ol walk in the rain knocked it for six.
I'm posting this hopefully to help other bikers from falling foul to this as I did.
I read all the positive reviews - but wasted £40 in the end.
Perhaps I'm in the minority, perhaps I expected too much?
Nope - I expected my kit to be waterproof. It wasn't.
Bikers out there, seriously consider buying a rain over suit instead.
Shiny side up guys.................
