Product Description

This neat little SLR camera will fit easily into the palm of your hand. It's much smaller and lighter than Nikon's 35mm models, and ideal for travelling, holidays and even carrying around "just in case". Note: This is an APS camera so it doesn't accept 35mm film, though APS film and processing are still available (October 2011).

Despite the tiny size, the specification is impressive, and a match for many 35mm cameras. The exposure system has all the popular auto modes, including Variable Program, Shutter Priority and Aperture Priority, plus four subject-based modes; Portrait, Landscape, Close-up and Night scenes.

Focusing is fully automatic, switches between single and continuous modes depending on the subject, and focus lock is available. Focus can be switched to manual, too. The Pronea S can be used with many Nikon and independent AF lenses. Shutter speeds run from 30 seconds to 1/2000th plus B, and flash synchronizes at up to 1/125th. The flash is built in and retractable, and includes anti-red-eye and slow speed sync features.

In addition to the normal photographic features, the Pronea S has many new ones made possible by the Advanced Photo System (APS). These include foolproof film loading with APS films, Mid Roll Change for swapping films whenever you want, three print formats (Classic 6x4, HDTV 7x4 and Panoramic 10x4-inch), time/date and message printing on the front OR back of your prints (not all processors offer this feature) and many more.

The 30-60mm IX Nikkor lens is equivalent to 38-75mm on a 35mm camera, and gives a handy wide angle to short tele/portrait range. It projects little more than an inch from the front of the camera, yet focuses automatically or manually down to 1.2 feet (0.35m), and has a 46mm thread for filters, close up lenses and other accessories.

This is an unusual little camera - an ideal starter SLR, or an excellent addition to an existing Nikon system!

This camera is ideal for those who want to step ahead in photography. After years of compact cameras, the Pronea S has been the ideal tool for my first SLR experience as, thanks to its combination of classic professional picture taking devices and the latest digital tools, I have learnt and enjoyed the pleasure of more advanced photography.

In fact, depending on his abiliity, the photographer can choose the autofocus mode or the manual focus.
With autofocus everything is easy and fast but still do not loose the "professional touch" feeling. With the increadibly easy -to- use functions the photographer can choose to shot portraits or landscapes and the camera will automatically choose the best aperture/shutter speed.
For those more experienced, however, there's always the possibility of adjusting the aperture or shutter speed manually to obtain the desired effects.

But that's not all. With this camera I have impressed my friends when showing breath-taking panoramic views of the nicest holiday spots I visited. This cameras in fact, is quite unique in its range as it also offers 3 picture - taking sizes (including panoramic) as otehr EPS cameras.

Need to say more? It's an excellent purchase, great for the beginners and full of facilities for the experts. Nice pictures are guarenteed, whatever the level of experience.

The Nikon Pronea S is an SLR with a difference - neither digital nor 35mm, it takes the less popular APS film. The versatility of APS is lost on many people, not least those who want the best quality - but how many people make prints larger than 4X6 or 5X7? The best thing about APS cameras is that you can compose a true panoramic scene without effort [1:3 ratio].

The Pronea S allows you to use most of your existing range of Nikkor lenses, although it will not accept DX lenses [the DX range is made specifically for digital Nikons]. Nevertheless, if you have a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 [or f/1.4], there's so much you can get out of your APS film.

Again, most consumers are hung up about picture quality without first realising that opportunities to take a photo and the possibility to change lenses on one's camera are just as important. In that respect, the Pronea S is more than capable of holding its own. Digital cameras come and go, not least because consumers are forever 'pixel peeping', and 35mm is better quality but does not have the versatility of APS.

I got my Pronea S for peanuts - APS film never really took off and has been much derided, but technically I think it's a great product, and this camera is one of the best designed for APS film.

It's simple to use, but very flexible and has plenty of shooting modes. You can use a very wide range of Nikon lenses on it - I'd recommend a good prime lens for best results. The bundled zooms are OK, but have a fairly slow maximum aperture.

The results from this camera are excellent - every shot is well-exposed and pin-sharp. It has a few limitations, but generally it's a great all-round camera. Unfortunately, choice in APS film is pretty limited these days, but if you shop around you can find enough choice to make mid-roll change useful.

Best thing about this camera is the data recording on the film. I get my shots put onto CDs at the time of processing, and the data is put on to the scans as EXIF info. This enables me to tally up the data from my GPS unit and geotag the pictures before putting them onto Flickr.

Running costs for APS can be high, but the cameras are so cheap it doesn't matter. Highly recommended.
