Product Description

Striking, angular, ultra-wide-angle view of a woman in a bright pink dress standing on steps between two blue glass buildings.
The ultra-wide-angle format provides dramatic composition possibilities.

Creating impressive compositions with a whole new perspective, the 1 NIKKOR VR 6.7–13mm f/3.5–5.6 ultra wide-angle zoom lens from Nikon, places you right in the heart of the action. Successfully extending the 1 NIKKOR range of lenses, this versatile lens can effortlessly capture an entire building from street level, a large group of friends without squeezing everyone together, or emphasise the sheer scale and beauty of a far-reaching landscape. Featuring Nikon’s Vibration Reduction stabilisation system (VR) and incorporating a retractable lens mechanism, this superior zoom provides a perfect balance of portability, power, speed, and quality.

Wide-angle Perfection

The perfect addition for your Nikon 1 system, this high-performing CX-format lens has a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 18 to 35mm[1] and a maximum 100° angle-of-view, and is the widest of all the 1 NIKKOR lenses. Capturing magnificent wide-angle shots, this lens is not all about getting everything into the frame. At the widest setting, the perspective and apparent depth of a scene expands. This allows distant horizons to be shot with precision while the camera maintains its focus on the foreground. Furthermore, the wonderfully smooth aperture mechanism lets you move easily between sharp and soft backgrounds so the subject stands out, even when shooting a movie.

Close-up view of coffee beans and sacks.
Focusing down to 250cm throughout the zoom range makes indoor close-ups easy.

Premium Technology

Nikon’s innovative Vibration Reduction stabilisation system (VR) enables steady hand-held shooting at all focal lengths. Delivering sharp photos and video, Vibration Reduction allows you to use shutter speeds that are up to 3 stops slower than would otherwise be possible. Leave your tripod at home and shoot with confidence, safe in the knowledge that the 1 NIKKOR VR 6.7–13mm f/3.5–5.6 lens will produce photos of outstanding sharpness and colour even in low light.

Strikingly Crisp

Providing superb optical performance, the lens comprises 11 elements in 7 groups, in a design with three ED and three aspherical lens elements. The iris diaphragm has seven rounded blades for a soft rendering effect, producing high-quality natural backgrounds. Featuring premium NIKKOR optics, the ED Glass elements work together with the aspherical elements to eliminate problems of coma and chromatic aberration and deliver high-resolution images with vividly rendered colours and deep contrast.

Landcape view of hills and sea with flowers in the foreground in Thailand.
Vibration Reduction ensures the most expansive landscapes are captured with pin-sharp accuracy.

Impeccable Design

The 1 NIKKOR VR 6.7–13mm f/3.5–5.6 is remarkably compact and lightweight for such a high performing lens. With a retractable lens mechanism for superior portability and a high-quality metallic exterior, available in high-gloss silver and semi-gloss black, this advanced lens perfectly complements the Nikon 1 camera design. Also included is a front and rear lens cap and the HB-N105 Bayonet Lens Hood, which helps reduce stray light and minimise flare resulting in better contrast and colour saturation.

Delivering bright, vibrant, crystal-clear views of your world, the 1 NIKKOR VR 6.7–13mm f/3.5–5.6 ultra wide-angle zoom lens from Nikon broadens your perspective. Whether you're shooting still photos or HD video, this versatile lens is an excellent way to expand your Nikon 1 system.

[1] The actual focal length of 6.7-13mm has an angle of view equivalent to that of an 18-35mm lens in 35mm [135] format.

Yes, the 1 series has it's knockers. Those who can't see past spec. Hopefully if you're reading this, you've discovered that it's actually a wonderful system. And the sheer speed of the focussing... and that electronic shutter... But. If you're using the standard kit lenses that came with your 1 series, then you're missing what the 1 series is truly capable of.

Finally an UWA (ultra wide angle) arrives for 1 series and now, finally, I'm pretty much able to ditch the dSLR. I have the standard 10-30mm and have supplemented this with a purchase of the 18.5mm f1.8 prime lens and now, at last, this one. These three lenses give me pretty much everything I would ever need from the 1 series and it makes the system a truly serious alternative to lugging around a full sized dSLR.

Until you touch and feel this lens, you can't appreciate the sheer beauty of it. It's wonderfully made. The image quality is exceptional.

I won't go in to technical details, they are to be found on every google link you can check. This is a stunningly made, beautiful quality lens and a truly exceptional addition to any 1 series kit. What are you waiting for? Do it, do it now! The only downside to this lens is that it's now made me absolutely want, indeed need, the 10-100mm lens.

Good job Nikon.

I have been waiting for a lens of this type to appear on the Nikon 1 system. It does not disappoint! The lens range is equivalent to 18-35mm in 'old money'. Its not cheap by any means, but you can see where the money has been spent. The image quality is stunning and the lens feels very solid. The zoom ring is machined aluminium rather than plastic and it has that solid Nikon feel that reassures.
This is a perfect travel and landscape lens. I've already taken a few nice interior shots within an abbey. At the wide end, one needs to be careful of the 'bending' effct of the lens on straight lines, but used properly this adds to the drama of a photo.

If you have any doubts about this lens- dont! Its a cracker and it will help you take better photos.

After 30+ years as a 'serious'(!?) amateur, I think I have found pretty much the ideal system. The image quality from the V1 is great- good enough for 12 X 16 prints (and thats big enough for me!) The camera and lens combo operates swiftly and with precision. The camera and lens is light enough to take anywhere. I can carry a camera and 3 lenses in the space I used to carry one DSLR and lens.
I think this system will go from strength to strength. I hope Nikon will realise that this system could be very popular if a few of their marketing ideas are changed. Firstly, it should be possible to buy a J or V series camera as a 'body only' option. Once you've bought the kit lenses you dont want to buy them again!. Secondly, the unusual flash shoe idea should be dumped. A standard flash hot shoe would allow access to the full NIKON flash system. Finally, a few less gimmicks (The viewfinder 'on' and 'off' eye switch comes to mind) and this system could be a real winner.
I can only hope that they will introduce more and more lenses of this quality. The 32mm F1.2 looks very interesting. How about a 75mm F1.4? I'd pay serious money for a equiv. 200mm ultra fast lens in a relatively small package!

Bought the lens to compliment my existing 10 -30mm and 30mm to 100mm and while I have adaptor to use my nikon F mount lenses they do not cover the wide angle aspect for the Nikon 1 camera sensor size. My style of photography uses wide lenses more of the time than I use long lenses. The lens is rather expensive but does what it says on the box and realy the only option available for wider angle photos than can be obtained with the 10-30 lens. Build quality is good but not exceptional for the price.

Great piece of kit - behaves like an 18mm focal length on 35mm equivalent. A really wide angle
A bit expensive but I guess it is difficult to manufacture

WOW - Great Wide Angle Lens !!! 20 Mar 2013
By american-streamer - Published on Amazon.com

This tiny zoom lens is a gem. It enhances the functionality of the Nikon 1 System for camera enthusiasts using the V1 as a walk around and travel camera significantly.

It is an impressive lens. It is solid, and well-built, compared to Nikon's kit lenses. It is more like a miniature pro lens, than a consumer lens in weight, and feel, with a knurled black metal grip, finish around the zoom part of the barrel. Turning the zoom is as smooth as silk. The lens just feels good to hold in your hand.

The quality of the lens is impressive. It is super sharp, has an excellent corner to corner sharpness, with excellent color, and superior contrast. The images I took with it show the variation in lighting to be very good for a lens in this zoom range. It handles flare beautifully, even when intentionally pointed into the sunlight without washing out the whole picture, and has a pleasant star like look on the sun and lamp lights is you control the lighting. I did look for purple fringing which is again excellent, but did find it looking at 400 percent magnification, so considering fringing to be very well controlled for a lens in the zoom range from personal experience.

The only challenge with this lens for me is inherent in this zoom range where everything is mostly in focus. It is difficult to reduce the depth of field dramatically in this focal length range in the cx format. But realistically not many of us that like the Nikon 1 System are going to step up to plate for another $1,000.00 dollars to buy a zoom in this focal range that has a significantly faster lens speed. So I am happy.

The VR, or optical stabilization is remarkable. I was initially concerned about this lens perhaps not being fast enough. The VR makes this wide-angle very useful for low light shooting of scenery, which was a relief for me since that is one of the things that makes a lens like this one fun to own.

I highly recommend this lens. Wide angle lenses are inherently expensive to build and buy, but believe me, after you have used one you will be hard pressed to leave it behind, especially for traveling, buildings, and scenery. It works beautifully for group people shots as well if used properly. This is a super quality lens, and a smart move by Nikon to enhance the functionality and value of the Nikon 1 System. People are going to fall in love with this lens.

Favorite 1 series lens so far 13 April 2013
By oldyoung - Published on Amazon.com

I've had the V1 since Jan. 2012 and I've loved it from the beginning. Things weren't so good as they are now with the addition of the 18.5mm f/1.8 and this UWA lens. Well, between the 5 lenses that I own (6.7-13mm, 10mm, 10-30mm, 18.5mm, 30-110mm) this is my favorite. It's my first ultra wide so I was hesitant to drop the money on it because I heard they were difficult to use. I'm glad that I did because this is a very sharp lens with great contrast and it allowed me to experience (high quality) wide angle shooting without having to drop over $1K on a lens. The VR on this lens is extremely good. Combined with my decently steady hands I've been able to take shots at 1/3s without any blur. I'm reliably able to shoot 1/10s for night time architecture.

Simply Amazing... 13 Jun 2013
By Stephen Norquist - Published on Amazon.com
Colour Name: Black
This is one of the best wide angle lenses I have ever used.
Extremely high contrast and color saturation.
Total edge to edge sharpness and practically infinite depth of field when paired with the CX sensor of the Nikon 1 cameras.
Objects less than a foot away are just as sharp as objects at infinity and this is right out to all the corners, not just in the center.
The resolution of this lens easily exceeds the resolution of the Nikon 1 series sensors.
The lens is at peak sharpness already at F3.5 and only the corners sharpen up a tad as you stop down.
The lens is so sharp that diffraction starts to be seen by F4.5, but even at F5.6, well into diffraction limiting, the lens is still much sharper than most other lenses made.
At 6.7mm there is barrel distortion but it is `far less' than the barrel distortion of the Nikon 1 10-30mm lens at 10mm.
This is pretty amazing actually if you think about it: at 6.7mm this lens has `less' barrel distortion than the 10-30mm lens at 10mm!
The barrel distortion in a worst case scenario is simple barrel distortion that can be easily corrected in Photoshop by punching in anything from +4 to +6 in the lens correction tool.
At F3.5 the lens has huge fall off in the corners.
At F4 this clears up about 50% and by F5.6 you really don't need to worry.
The falloff can be used as a creative tool when desired to frame in a building or center a subject.
Just make sure to have the sun directly behind you otherwise you will get fall off on only one side of the sky.
Flare is magically controlled with this lens. I have shot with the sun directly in the top of the frame and barely saw any glare, loss of contrast or ghosts. I don't know how this is possible. It blows every wide angle I have ever used right out of the water in this area.
Did I mention that this lens also has VR, as if it was needed. LOL
I can set ISO800 and shoot at 1/3 of a second and get no blur.
Zooming is a smooth silky process and auto focus is lighting fast even in non-ideal lighting conditions.
But most importantly this lens is amazingly creative and in my opinion the best lens made for the Nikon 1 series of cameras.
If they ever make a Nikon 1 camera with a 16mp sensor this lens will be right there to effortlessly feed it high resolution images.
This lens gets my top recommendation.
Nikon did a very, very good thing.

Lenses cannot get any better than this. 26 April 2013
By Julius Kovatch - Published on Amazon.com
Colour Name: Black Verified Purchase
The Nikon 1 system and especially the V2 model is an exceptional camera for serious amateurs. I have been using the V2 with the 10-100mm lens with outstanding results, but I missed the real wide angle end. This lens makes my system complete and with these 2 lenses I can handle any situation, wide angle or tele.
This lens just like the other Nikon 1 lenses razor sharp even wide open at any focal lengths. If you like taking extreme wide angle shots like I do this is the lens to get, highly recommend it.

Must have lens! 23 Jun 2013
By Albie - Published on Amazon.com
Colour Name: Black Verified Purchase
This is an excellent lens. I no longer use my 10-30 lens for landscape pictures. I went on a two week vacation with my family out west, and I used this lens about 80% of the time. If you are contemplating the Nikon 1 system, buy the V2 body and the following lens: the 6.7-13, the 18.5 (for low light situations), and the new, non-motorized zoom 10-100. The new 32 mm f1.2 looks like a winner too, but at >$800 it is out of most people's price range. I will be getting that lens too.

I had my 30-110 on my J1, along side the 6.7-13 on my V2. The 30-110 was just too long. If I had the new 10-100, I would have had the better range. I will be getting the new 10-100 in July.

The 3 lens I recommended above (6.7-13, 18.5, and the new 10-100) is all you need at the moment for the N1 system.

I have the 10-30, 30-110, and the 10 f2.8. I rarely use the 10-30 and the 10 anymore. I use the 30-110 for my kids outdoor school activites.
