I've owned a few of Nikon's kit lenses (18-70, 18-105, 18-200), but this is the best so far. Like many of us, my photography budget is limited and although I would love all my lenses to be at least f/2.8 maximum aperture, it ain't going to happen ....
Being mainly a landscape photographer this lens suits very well as a 'normal' fixture on my camera, and produces sharp, good contrast images with minimal distortion at the wide end and a useful extension to 85mm at the other - suitable for portraits, street photography and close-ups on most occasions.
One word of warning to prospective buyers is to be careful who you buy from - there are UK sellers who do not include the Nikon UK warranty, but I sourced mine from Amazon seller Calumet who do, and they also provided a quick despatch of the item.
Good quality images at a very reasonable price level!

This lens is really rather nice to use. The build quality is superior to my Nikon 18-135mm kit lens. The image stabilisation is fantastic since sharp pictures can be obtained at 1/20 sec which reduces the need to increase the ISO setting.
Calumet are to be congratulated with the speed of packing and posting this lens. It was with me the day after placing the order.

This lens has a useful Zoom range, produces excellent results - even hand held in low light (the VR really DOES work and can gain me the equivalent of 2 stops or so on occasions).
I have 7 lenses in my kit bag - the majority being specials (1:1 Macro, Long Tele) but this lens is so good that I rarely remove it to replace it with Nikkor primes that coincide with the Zoom Range of this lens.
If I costed out the outlay and return on my equipment then this one would be in for a huge bonus! :)
