Flashtastic..... 8 Aug 2008
Bought this for my D300 as the nice little infrared remote that worked with my D40 does not work with Nikons more expensive DSLRs. The unit is well made and comes with a nice Nikon carry case (quite difficult to make it fit back in so take a good look at how it fits BEFORE you pull it all out!)
Easy to fit to camera and very easy to use. Easily performs over the stated distance and because there is no physical contact with the camera you can get pin sharp pictures when used on a tripod. The camera receiver can be twisted to any position so you can "fire" the camera from behind/front/side (something you cannot do with the smaller remotes on the D40 etc. as the receiver is fitted to the front face of the camera itself.
This item is only a few pounds more than the wired version and gives you much greater flexibility, however because the receiver is powered from the camera battery it ties up the "hotshoe" on the camera which means you cannot use the flash without buying some (no doubt expensive Nikon) adaptor.
Other than the small point mentioned above this is an excellent unit and highly recommended.
One more point is that it looks, excuse the pun, FLASH !!!

I bought this to replace a cheaper one that failed in the field. The Nikon is robust but the locking button is a nuisance. It sticks locked or part locked and often needs both hands to keep the button unlocked. I shoot most of my work mirror-up so each shot needs the remote operated twice which makes it even more of a pain. Great for long exposure (bulb) shots though. I'm not sure I would buy this next time as I would probably go for 2 cheap internet ones which normally last a couple of years and are much much cheaper.

Simple to use, allows you to get from behind the camera to interact with your subjects, also allows some decent self portraits without running from the self-timer to get into position.
