5.0 out of 5 stars Multi-Power Battery Pack 26 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase
First, just a word of clarification. The Product Description for the Nikon MB-D15 Multi-Power Battery Pack advises "To use the MB-D15 with AA batteries, use the MS-D14 AA Battery Holder. When using EN-EL15 batteries to power the MB-D15, use the MS-D14EN Battery Holder". Be assured that BOTH of the battery holders referred to ARE INCLUDED in the box and DO NOT need to be ordered separately.
Beyond this, I have not tested this item to exhaustion of the EN-EL15 battery [which does have to be ordered separately] nor tried it with AA batteries so cannot yet comment on battery life or shots fired. That said, it does feel a robust piece of kit, worthy of the Nikon Brand. It is easily and quickly attached/detached from the camera and access to the battery chamber to change power sources is simple. When attached the unit and camera combine to provide a good ergonomic and balanced feel. The inclusion of a shutter release on the battery pack is really useful when working with the camera rotated to a portrait format.
At the end of the day, it's a battery pack - but it's a very good one. There's some real thought gone into its design, look and feel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but Quality 1 May 2013

With a battery grip costing much more than a medium point and shoot camera it takes a leap of faith to buy this, there are some compatibles coming out which are retailing just over 100 so I was unsure which way to leap. Having had the battery grip for the D90 I had come to love the balance and extra battery life a battery grip gave. So after much deliberating I went for the Nikon grip, The build, fit and quality is second to none, it fits the camera like a glove and the double wheel tightening system which must use a gear assembly is rock solid and makes the entire assemble more secure feeling than the D90 grip.

Unlike the D90 which took 2 batteries and had a little hiding place for the camera battery cover this takes one while utilising the normal battery in-situ in the camera, great improvement. It has a 6xAA battery carriage as previous grips but this time the carriage is a complete unit which just replaces the EN-EL15 carriage unit when swapping over.

The biggest improvement for me was that the battery changes take place by sliding the battery in from the side and not using a rear flap, because as I use a wrist strap I was forever having to slacken it off tio change the batteries, now with the end loading it stays in pace.

I still feel the price of this will put many off and I would like to say you get what you pay for so going for the compatible option might be the choice for you but I guarantee the build quality and feel will not match the Nikon grip. I am only marking this down to 4 stars from 5 because of the high price else it would be 5 stars all the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best grip choice? 3 Aug 2013
By Traffic TOP 500 REVIEWER

I mainly use a vertical grip for shooting portrait, The extended battery life thing is a bonus but not as important to me.
I decided to get this grip after purchasing a Meike 3rd party version. The Meike grip was only a quarter of the price but as the old saying goes you get what you pay for as the grip did not work properly,
After this I just went for the original Nikon and it works great,
The locking mechanism is much better than anything you will find on a third party grip, It uses a dual wheel lock which makes it so easy to get a tight grip and still remove it just as easily.
The finish matches the Camera perfectly and has a very rubbery grip feel to it. Needless to say the build quality is solid as it uses the same magnesium alloy construction as the D7100.

Bottom line is Nikon have this Battery grip way overpriced and should really be selling it for much less, regardless of this it is without a doubt the best quality grip on the market.
If you have the money then this should be your first choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars KEEPS YOU SHOOTING. 26 May 2014

A great extra for the D7100 providing extended camera time. You can configure the D7100 to use either first battery first. When one battery is ready to pack up the camera automatically switches to the other. Much better than any unofficial battery pack. As a bonus the D7100 and the MB-D15 look the part and make for a very solid combination. Recommended highly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality product from Nikon 5 May 2014

This is a great product from Nikon. Like other people have said, it is a quality well made product that works very well. I have tried it out today and am very pleased with it. I have marked it down 1 star because the way it sits against the camera at the button end isn't as flush as I thought it would be. It still fits very well and there is no issues but I thought Nikon might have smoothed the one end that meets the right side of the camera (the grip side) so it would look like it is all one piece like a D4. It's not a major issue and it shouldn't put anyone off buying this product, but for the price you pay it would have been nice. As a piece of equipment it is very well made, sturdy and built to last. Works as it should and I am glad I have purchased this item over the cheaper non-genuine equipment regardless that I haven't tried the others.

5.0 out of 5 stars It does what it is designed to do. 16 Mar 2014

If you want the best buy Nikon. Nothing else compares. Not only does it give you twice the amount of time when shooting but it adds a real balance to the camera especially when coupled with a long lens. I won't use a camera without one.
