Nikon is also launching the new Speedlight SB-700, a feature-packed yet easy-to-use flash unit. The SB-700 offers lighting benefits that greatly surpass the camera onboard flash, allowing total control over scene or subject lighting to create beautiful, professional looking results. Also new to the Nikon accessories range is the Battery Pack MB-D11, allowing seamless power switching and incorporating controls for vertical shooting. The D7000 is compatible with the GP-1 GPS (Global Positioning System) unit which records location information in the image file and of course, the camera supports a wide variety of NIKKOR lenses.

Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D11

The MB-D11 battery pack extends autonomous operating time. It enables seamless switching between power sources, and is equipped with a shutter release button and command dials for vertical shooting. Boasts a tough magnesium alloy cover for protection. Powered by specific Nikon batteries and Ni-MH or lithium AA-size batteries.

The new Speedlight – the SB-700

A sophisticated flash in a compact body, the SB-700 offers users the opportunity to expand their creative potential beyond the built-in camera flash. It integrates flawlessly with Nikon's DSLR cameras, taking advantage of i-TTL to provide optimal results with minimum of effort. Inheriting the advanced features of the professional SB-900 flash, the new flash also boasts an intuitive interface and easy-to-understand operating system. It features Nikon's i-TTL, through-the-lens metering system, ensuring accurate light measuring as well as multi-step auto zoom, which automatically detects the lens focal length and adjusts the flash output accordingly for angles of view from 24mm to 120mm. Users have the choice of three illumination patterns, which can be quickly selected to match different shooting scenarios. The high performance Speedlight is ideal for a wide range of applications, from portrait and studio to events and night-time photography. The SB-700 is compatible with FX and DX format cameras and its fast wireless control will make the flash attractive for a wide range of customers, including advanced photographers seeking to extend their Creative Lighting System. It can act as a master, controlling up to two groups of flashes and their light ratios, and can also act as a remote unit in a flash set up. With its rotating head and built-in bounce card, the photographer can use the flash to direct the light and bounce it off ceilings or walls. The SB-700 also comes with the practical Nikon Diffusion Dome to soften the light and even the shadows of direct flash. The flash has a mounting foot lock lever, through which the flash can be securely attached to the camera, preventing it from coming loose. There is also an optional weather -sealed mount available for outdoor photography.

5.0 out of 5 stars A mid-range DSLR that punches above its weight 21 Dec 2010
By Derek Jones TOP 500 REVIEWER
Colour Name:Black| Size Name:Body Only|Amazon Verified Purchase
A headline selling point of the D7000 is 1080p HD video with continuous autofocus. I had never previously bothered with digital camera movies but the D7000 has almost won me over. It is certainly not perfect. If you pan a group of active children the autofocus will not cope, and if you make the autofocus and VR work hard they create noise on the soundtrack. However, there is a jack to attach an external stereo mic to avoid noise problems, and if you take shots that are not too demanding of the autofocus (or use the manual focus) you can produce superb film-like results. If you have not already seen them look at the Chase Jarvis movies on the internet. In future I shall use the D7000 video in addition to my camcorder, though it will not replace it.

However, my main interest is still photography and I think that this camera is designed for people like me. Firstly, I want a camera with lots of easily accessible manual controls and the full range of customisable tools missing on entry-level DSLRs such as the D3100. The D7000 certainly has these. But I want more than this. I also want a quality camera that is not too bulky or heavy, that has lots of features to explore, and has the automatic assistance to make it easy to use casually and quickly on a day out with family or friends. The alloy body makes it heavier than the D90, albeit almost identical in size, but substantially lighter than the D300s. It feels good in the hand, the controls are intuitive, and it is fast and responsive.

The camera is feature-rich. My own favourites are:
1. A 6fps continuous shooting speed up to 100 frames - and I am equally pleased that one can adjust this to between 1fps and 5fps.
2. The alloy body and weather sealing - ideal for the British climate.
3.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nikon at its best 10 Mar 2011
Colour Name:Black|Size Name:Body Only
Have waited a month to review this, as wanted a genuine comparison, from my D90, using the 16-85 VR lens.

At up to ISO 1600, f5.6 and above, up to 10"x8" prints, you will hardly see any difference in image quality, but push the D7000 and it shows its true worth. The ergonomics, layout and handling are all better than the D90, and the many extra features over the D90, are extremely worthwhile, giving a new dimension to your hobby, and a great expansion. Some little things are amazing, like the rear infra red receiver for remote, mirror lock up, very fast motordrive for a consumer model (jpeg), (slows considerably in RAW), and the virtual horizon is a great addition (need to custom select for viewfinder, which is also larger and brighter as well), interval shots, and nearly half as much battery life as D90, great.

One worry I had, prior to purchase, were the reviews of over exposure, it is no different to the D90 ~ result.

I mainly take stills, but the video is again better than the D90 + masses of storage with the 2 memory card slots, and a 20 minute burst rate.

Focus is better and quicker, especially with older lenses, and the low light capability is excellent, all in all, Nikon at its best, delivering a genuine enthusiasts DSLR, with not too high a price tag, and if any D90 owners are thinking it isn't worth the upgrade ~ IT IS. Add in its better build quality and weatherproofing, I love this camera, and will be very happy to use it in the coming years.

2 months on, I'm using this now with a 17-55 non VR, and 70-300 VR, image quality is very good indeed, better than I anticipated, and again must mention this camera is excellent in low light, unbelievable at times!!

This is nikons current best in class dx body when it comes to buying cameras. Before getting this i spent months trying to decide wether i should go with the nikon d300s or this beauty. Now i'm no pro but i know a thing or too about nikon tech. After watching the reviews i relaised that with this camera, all your missing out on is a 10 pin sync cord port (if your using studio flash systems) and the opportunity to go 8 frames a second when you either buy the grip or do the braket burst at 8 fps in some long menu setup. the d300s is aslo full metal alloy construction however trust me, when you get the D7000 it feels more than ready to handle a tough shooting enviroment because it has metal alloy top and back covers, and this is coming from a person who often takes his gear on long expeditions to the middle of nowhere.

Before i had this camera i had the d3000, which was a great little camera but was to basic. This camera offers access to the amazing CLS system which definatly is a much if you buy your first serious of camera flash and want to use it. The 6 frames a second should handle sports just fine however genrally the faster the better so maybe its not going to be your ideal camera if you shoot sports alot. However if you shoot in rooms where there is a crappy amount of light and or shoot wildlife when your pushing you basic dslr to ISO 1600-3200 then this is the deal maker. Before, on my d3000, i could only go up to ISO 800 before starting to have to worry about noise. now i can shoot 1600 without thinking about it and head up to ISO 3200-6400 and fix the iso in camera pretty effectivly. If you have an old dslr or a entry level dslr then you can only understand what this is like untill you actually buy the thing! i have no regrets.
