Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Wow. A feature-packed easy to use Nikon-quality camera for under £100? This is an impressive piece of kit.

First impressions on opening the box is how light and thin the camera is. It's the size of a pack of cards and only a little heavier, even with the battery and a memory card installed.

In this review I'll give a quick run-through of the main pros and cons for me, and then if you want more detail I've also included a run-down of the main features, picture quality, and what else is included in the box.

If you find this review helpful please let me know by voting for it or by leaving a comment.

***Pros***

1. Picture quality for the size: I'm used to digital SLRs, and I'm reasonably impressed by the picture quality of this little camera by comparison to a Nikon D50 SLR.
2. Ease of use: this really is a idiot-proof camera. Nikon provide a quick-start guide on paper and a full instruction manual on CD but you don't really need these - just put the battery and a memory card in, charge it up and you're ready to go.
3. Zoom: the 4x optical zoom is good, and I like the option to zoom further in digitally on the camera. You can do this just by keeping your finger on the zoom rocker but helpfully the zoom pauses once the limit of the optical zoom is reached, which will preserve your pictures at the highest quality.
4. Nikon quality: Nikon is known as a good name in cameras, so to get a camera from this company at such a low price is a real bargain.

***Cons***
1. The 'scene mode': this offers a whole range of scenes that you can set the camera to in order to get the best results (for example you might select the snow setting to take a picture of a snowman, or the dusk/dawn setting if taking pictures at that time).

5.0 out of 5 stars fab 8 Jun 2011

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Was surprised at how light and small the camera on. Fits into your trouser pockets perfectly.
It takes great photos and I love the little feature where it focuses on your face straight away, is quite cool :) The speed in which photos take on this as well is quick and is nice not to have to hold onto the button and play around with it to actually take the picture.
Its a perfect little digital camera, excellent for holiday needs and family days out needs. Great value for money and I definately recommend it if you need a new digital camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great combination of features 13 May 2011
By Ray Blake VINE™ VOICE
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
At this stage in the technology's development, digital cameras are pretty generic in most repects, and manufacturers have to compete on less obvious features than MPs and zooms. Some go for software, others for physical size and Nikon has certainly scored in both. But the real win for me is the refresh speed. I am used to waiting a few seconds between shots from comparable cameras, whereas this Nikon is very quick indeed. Nicely done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality value camera 18 May 2011

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I won't pretend that this is goinng to suddenly turn you into David Bailey or anything like that, but for less than a £100 you are getting a perfectly serviceable "holiday" or "going out" camera.

Packed full of the kind of features you'd expect from a Nikon this sleek camera is ultra light in the hand and is certainly the kind of thing that is easy to carry around. I previously had an old(ish) Kodak which must be twice the weight of this if not more and offered no features that this Coolpix camera doesn't also give.

It's 12mp so should give you good enough quality for most "casual" needs, although I would have to admit that I have seen similar cameras that appeared to have better/clearer zoom features.

I'd imagine most users won't delve too deeply into the multitude of features and I will admit that the wide range of them could be overwhelming to some users but the fact remains that as a "click and point" camera, this takes some beating at this price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slim, pocketable and excellent quality 21 Nov 2011
By Mart TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
This lovely little Nikon Coolpix S2500 is the forerunner to the slightly higher spec S3100 model Nikon Coolpix S3100 Digital Camera - Black (14MP, 5x Wide Optical Zoom) 2.7 inch LCD. Both are well equipped and very capable of handling the daily demands of photo situations. I compared the two models very carefully, and considered the S3100 to be a better choice, based on the fact that it has a higher specification for only a little more money.

There are five main differences:

1) Zoom is a more than adequate at 4x, but the S3100 has 5x.

2) Megapixels are 12million, compared to the S3100 14million, although this difference won't be noticed (12M is more than enough).

3) Video capture is VGA (640 x 480) on the S2500 while the S3100 boasts HD (1280 x 720) with a one-touch record button on the camera back. This was a key deciding factor for me, with the one-touch proving useful on countless occasions.

4) Size (mm) of the S2500 is 93.1 x 57.1 x 20.0, while the S3100 is 93.5 x 57.5 x 18.4. The S3100 is only slightly slimmer but more importantly has a much sleeker feel thanks to its rounded edges. This really does make a difference when handling and slipping into a pocket.

5) Colour availability of the S2500 is black, silver, red or pink while the S3100 also offers blue, yellow and purple.

Comparison aside, the S2500 is an excellent Nikon Coolpix camera.
