Smart portrait system & Advanced Face Priority AF with in-camera Red-eye Fix

Smart portrait system advanced automatic features for perfect portraits. Smile Timer takes the shot when your chosen subject smiles. Blink Proof alerts you when someone had their eyes closed. Advanced Face Priority AF with in-camera Red-eye Fix lets you quickly detect and focus accurately on up to 12 faces in the frame, and corrects false eye colour due to flash the instant you take the shot.

D-lighting & Movie recording with sound.

D-lighting creates pleasing results by correcting strong shadows to rescue underexposed images, or shots taken with excessive backlight. The S220 also records movies with sound.

I decided to buy a Nikon coolpix S220 (10 mega pixel) as a replacement for my old Nikon 2100 following 5yrs good service and many great pictures.

The S220 is a very small camera with some nice features if you read the speal. It sounds a great camera to pop in your pocket and capture those family moments wherever you are.

I have to say I was very dissapointed in the picture quality with
most of the photo's taken being either not sharp or have lots of noise.
The Video mode is very poor also and not as good as my Sony mobile phone !!!

This camera shows some good ideas from Nikon but in my opinion the very small size makes it far too fiddley to use and perhaps this also contributes to the poor picture quality, as larger Nikons seem to give much better quality pic's......

All in all my old Nikon takes better pictures at only 2MP than the new S220. Therefore I will be sending this one back to Amazon for a refund.

Perhaps its worth spending the extra £70-80 and buying the Fuji F200EXR if you want crisp clear pics that are good in low light too.

4/10 Nikon, could do better !!!

Having read reviews of this camera on Amazon and also on Which, I wasn't expecting too much - it's a pretty cheap camera, after all - but on viewing the first batch of images, I'm really, really disappointed. What's the point in having a stated 10mp when there are such serious problems with fringing, pixellation and poor colour reproduction, not to mention being unable to handle any kind of contrast in well-lit conditions?
I'd expect as much from a webcam, to be frank. Not even good enough for printing holiday snaps at 6x4, let alone anything larger - which, to be frank, is reasonable to expect for a camera with this stated resolution.
I 'upgraded' to this Nikon from an ageing 5mp Pentax, which had a smaller LCD but vastly superior picture quality (not to mention quicker start-up and save-to-card times).
Yes, this Nikon is compact, cheap-ish and easy to use, but that's no excuse for low image quality. Avoid.

It is a good choice if you want images but cannot, for one or another reason, lug around a beefy slr. It has the perennial problem, of course, that everything is driven from the back screen, and when you can't see the screen because of strong light .. ! But it is a clever and very light device and the results are generally excellent, so far as it goes. Battery life, with frequent usage, seems to be about ten days but would doubtless go longer. Uploading is fine and with an 8gb chip, you are not likely to run out of memory. I tried the video feature and it is obviously okay but I wasn't that interested.

This was my first Nikon after years of Canon's and after spotting the S220 on Amazon decided to buy. Well - the camera is going back to Amazon tomorrow after a week of ownership. Every single picture that this camera takes is blurred and the image quality is comparable to a mobile phone. Frankly we are very disapointed as Nikon appears to be a good brand but the quality of the S220 is bad, really bad. I have sat and tweaked all of the settings but still the image quality does not reflect what a modern 10mp camera should be capable of. Poor show Nikon.

Avoid this camera as if it had swine flu.

I so wanted this camera to be good. Great size, looks good, plastic but solid build, good range of functions, well thought through menu system and button functions. Competitive price and Nikon reputation should have made this an easy winner. But...
Colours are muddy. Shots have poor focus and are grainy. And most unforgiveable, shots have a high noise content, with speckled pixels ruining all the photographs.
I'm no newbie with digtal cameras - I bought one of the first 1.3 MP cameras at £1300 years back! And I have had a number of Canon Powershots and I own a Canon SLR. But the Coolpix S220 is easily the worst I have seen - my 3 year old camera phone produces better results.
Seriously, I wanted the S220 to work - but the quality of its output is unforgiveable. If you don't want to believe me, then at least try before you buy.

This camera gives extremely poor, grainy images for indoor pictures and not particularly good for outdoor ones either. Got far better quality images from my previous (2005) Nikon Coolpix. Disappointing, Nikon !

I had previously bought a Nikon Coolpix S52 and never really liked it - it was so, so slow to use and the picture quality wasn't great, everyone always looked very orange! I was very apprehensive about buying another Nikon when I broke my s52 but when the s230 came up for a price I couldn't refuse I went ahead and bought it anyway, a risk I'm glad I took. The picture quality is good, the build of the camera is great and as a person who loves their (inexpensive!) gadgets the touch screen is an added bonus. I'm no photography expert and use my camera for basic point and shoot pictures but I'm very happy with the product and the resultant pictures.

Very good little camera. Extremely light weight and fits easily into your pocket. The picture quality is fine though the zoom is not particularly strong.

You need to play with the settings to get the best out of it but once you master this, you should find it suitable for most occasions where taking along an SLR or larger digital camera isn't practical.

Overall excellent value as you would expect from a Nikon.
