Disappointed 21 Mar 2009
By Allan M
I bought this on the high street, at a good price and because it is so slim that it can be taken anywhere.

However, a couple of months on, I am disappointed and wish I had tried a different camera. It can take reasonable pictures but I have discovered that the bottom left corner is often slightly blurred and that to avoid bluey colour fringes at the edge of light/dark boundaries, e.g. people in front of sky or the edges of buildings, tree branches/twigs, I must only really use about a quarter of the zoom range (half-way in or more).

Brilliant 27 May 2010

This is a brilliant little camera. It is small enough to fit in a pocket, yet not so thin that you're scared you'll snap it. It is quick to load, so if you want to capture something straight away you're not left waiting for 30 seconds, as with some of my past cameras. It has a variety of modes, and you can get superb-quality photos if you use "close up". It's easy to change the flash mode. You can set a timer. It has a flat bottom, so you can stand it on a table and take photos from there. As with any other camera, you need to keep your hand steady or /of course/ the picture will blur.
It has survived many bumps and falls, and I recommend it if you're seeking a good little camera. I wouldn't say that it's suitable for professionals, but for the casual photographer it is perfect.

I bought one of these for my missus, hoping that its general slimness and lack of features would limit the
number of idiotic questions I would have to field from her about its use. Certainly it is simple. Sadly it is simply terrible. The picture quality is at best mediocre. Most shots suffer from terrible edge of frame blurring, with lousy colours, dodgy autofocus and less visual clarity than a cataract-ridden pensioner on abysnthe.

Fortunately, blessed relief was provided a few months later when, despite having been hardly used at all - never dropped and never taken anywhere remotely dirty or sandy - the lens mechanism broke. It didn't even have the decency to jam in a way that could be fixed by banging the thing repeatedly against my head. I know because I tried. Instead it jammed in an annoying, 'can't actually see what's wrong, everything seems to be moving correctly yet it still won't work' kind of way. Some Googling later and I learned that this is a VERY common issue with the Nikon S210 - and, even better, Nikon refuse to fix it under warranty.

So, though it no longer takes (awful) pictures, the camera has finally found its true calling. Its slim enough to put under the wonky leg of my patio table and stop it wobbling. Hurrah.

Read some of the negative reviews. No problems with this camera, shoot and go. Easy to use, several settings to ensure best quality photos. For the price a good all round camera.
