5.0 out of 5 stars Love my new nikon coolpix l120 5 May 2011
By Emily
Picture quality is very good, time it takes to take a shot is outstanding compared to my last camera. Also, ISO range is very good, and you have the ability to control this yourself in auto mode. I grasped how to change settings straight away - it is very easy to use. Video quality is good, much higher than my previous digital cameras. I also love the feel of the camera - I have had many compliments on the look of it already, having owned it now for one day! Overall I am VERY pleased! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE it!! 19 April 2011
Verified Purchase
I've only been out with this camera once, but already I really love it! I'm an amateur photographer, but have been into photography for a couple of years now and was looking for a point-and-shoot camera which has a powerful built in zoom, my previous Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 had a 12x zoom... and this one has a 21x zoom which really is incredible and the quality of the photos even using the full zoom is brilliant, much better than my Lumix when the photos often came out blurred at full zoom capacity! In fact all the photos I took this morning were sharper and of much better quality than with my previous camera. I've not even received the memory card yet, but was able to take a good number of photos which were saved into the memory of the actual camera - something I've not come across before so I was very impressed with that.

Overall, my immediate opinion of this camera is that it's just what I wanted and would suit any amateur photographer who doesn't want anything too technical and likes to take photos using the zoom a lot! It also has a very efficient 'close-up' setting which is great for flowers and small insects etc. I'm looking forward to a lot more fun and great photos with this camera!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nikon Coolpix L120 20 Nov 2011
Verified Purchase
Nice little camera and it gives some excellent results at maximum telephoto range without tripod. It is fairly limited in the number of settings available but I have a fancy camera if I want to play rather than take photos. My only real criticism is that the thumb rest is very close to the review button so I keep seeing the last photo I took. A quick press of the shutter release restores normality. So if you have large thumbs like me consider alternatives. If not buy this.
Update after over a year of using this camera: Initially I had a lot of difficulty with battery life, the camera would just eat up good quality batteries and rechargeables. So I tried Lithium batteries. 6 months use so far and I have not had to change them. I average around 400 photos per month. I will also say that I am continually surprised by the reach of the zoom on this camera. I have photos of local features taken from over a mile away that look as if they were taken from the next field. I had one comment on Facebook that suggested that the photo could only have been taken from a hot air balloon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing design 7 Dec 2011
I bought one of these to replace a Fuji bridge camera because of some positive reviews of the image quality. I remain rather perturbed at the lack of adjustment potential - it is more or less entirely automatic, with adjustment of the ISO setting and exposure compensation the only real options. You can also choose vivid colour, B&W if you like or use one of the scene modes. After the multi adjustments possible on the Fuji and even on my compact, I am a bit disappointed, but also interested to see where the money was spent.

First the automatic works very well, it seems to focus and expose very accurately without you needing to agonise over whether to use spot metering and averaged focusing or vice versa. Its happy to choose the ISO setting as well. It is pretty good and even ISO 1600 is quite useable. There are several really good features. One is the image stabilised lens with 25-525 equivalent zoom. It is an excellent lens with good sharpness and contrast throughout the range. Two is the sensor which produces nice clean images with lovely colour. Three is the build quality which is very high, this does not feel like a budget camera. Four, it doesn't look like a budget camera either, it looks like a serious Nikon, and so do the pictures it takes. I can't catch it out yet - the electronics seem cleverer than me... On reflection ...be honest with yourself...how often do you turn your camera off auto? And if you do, how often does it ruin the shot instead of improving it? Five, the LCD is superb with excellent visibility and high definition.

I can't give this 5 stars because it is really much too simplistic, and it does not even give a readout of the settings on review of the pictures, but it is an excellent auto camera and good value (but beware - the price fluctuates a lot).

2.0 out of 5 stars Lacks manual controls - takes good pictures 14 Jan 2012
By C L
I bought this camera (NOT from Amazon) to use on a beginners photography course.

It was pegged as a bridge/hybrid camera i.e. a camera that has MORE features than a compact, but without the expensive commitment that comes with a digital SLR.

I've been disappointed to find that I had more manual control on my previous compact!!!

In particular I would have liked to be able to set different shutter speeds and focal lengths.

The four AA batteries run out quickly too, so a high performing rechargable set is essential.

Now the good stuff?

The camera is light, neat and easy to use. It has a fab zoom (x21) and 14mp, giving great picture quality. The ISO can be set manually or automatically.
If you're looking for an automatic 'point and shoot' camera but with extra zoom, then you'll probably love it.
Otherwise, you may as well buy one of the many compacts that have the same specs for less money and less bulk.
