Could I ask for more? 24 April 2004
This camera is ideal for the average photographer. It is moulded to fithands in the best positioning, the shutter is placed directly under theindex finger and the thumb fits naturally on top of the zoom feature. Thecamera is more compact than most and all of the features are clearlylabelled and well positioned. The other reviewer was not pleased with thechange from rechargeable batteries to AA's. However, both mediums have thepro's and con's I hate rechargables when you are abroad because you cantcharge the camera without an adapter. Even so, I recommend buying somerecharable AA's which should dramatically decrease the spending onduracells.
The screen is very large and is unbelievably clear and sharp. The moviefeature is fun but there is no sound which is a minor problem but yourpaying for a camera not a camcorder. A large SD card is recommended as thecamera can only hold 29 photos on high quality without one. I was worriedthat 2megapixels would not be adequate for my needs, large prints for artcoursework, but even with 3mp one would need an expensive printer to gettop quality prints and the quality that the nikon produced was terrific, much better than Kodak's 3.2mp equivalent model. There are many differentmodes that feature on this camera, one wonders when you would ever need touse some of them. However, the menu system is very clear and the jog wheelis a very useful feature that makes Kodak's navigation system lookterrible.
No faults, just a superb entry into digital photography!

Good for the money 12 July 2004
This camera is small but packs a punch. Not only is it both PC and Mac compatible but it also comes with software that enables you to play around with your digital images. There are a variety of effects you can alternate between, such as black and white, vivid colour and sepia. However the best feature is the continuous option which allows you to take up to 16 frames continuously.

The camera would be good for a beginner as the fuctions are self explanatory. The portrait and landscape option makes taking pictures under those kinds of circumstances effortless, and almost guarantees that the pictures come out crispt and clear.

The LCD screen at the back is a good size and can be switched off to preserve battery life.

The camera takes two AA batteries which is very good. However the batteries do not last long and if the camera is on for more than a couple of hours a new pair would have to be put in.

It can take up to 27 pics without a memory card, depending on the type of pics you're taking. Memory cards cost around £25 for 64MG.

Nikon Coolpix 2200 24 Mar 2004
The Coolpix 2200 is Nikon's "successor" to their previous model the 2100, between the camera's very little has changed, but very little of this change is directed at the consumer. The optics and image quality are identical to the 2100, as is the general shape of the body, there have been some slight changes to the layout of the controls, the biggest being the feature wheel is now on the back panel- presumeably to allow for more intuitive control, however having to stop shooting to point the camera at the ground to see what feature you want to use next hardly allows for the ease of use the 2100 had, the other big difference is the change in memory format, from CompactFlash(CF)to Secure Digital(SD) which although is less power hungry than compact flash, the added time given by the batteries does not justify the switch to the higher priced SD card.
If these were the only changes made by Nikon, I would have still been happy with the camera. However in the box, both the Battery charger and the rechargeable batteries have been removed, and replaced with a standard pair of disposable batteries- This is made all the more cheeky by the fact it is on sale for the same price as the 2100 left the shelf at. In my opinion if you want a easy to use digital camera with which you can print pictures at around 7"x5" with no loss in quality, it's a good camera, but if at all possible search around for a 2100, its better value for money, with the same images, with the added bonus of lower priced memory and charger and batteries included.
