The Nikon AS-1 Flash Unit Coupler is a handy little accessory for Nikon F and F2 series 35mm manual focus cameras (see full list below). These cameras have a non-standard flash mount around the rewind knob, and this adapter fits on here and accepts Nikon or independent hot shoe flash units. It can also be used with models that have a standard shoe and PC synchro cable, which plugs into the socket on the front of the camera.
The adapter is very compact and lightweight at around 25mm (1 inch) tall, 35mm (1.5 inches) in diameter, and weighs under 30g. It's nicely made (in Japan), with metal shoes top and bottom, plastic body to save weight, and a rotating locking collar to secure it to the camera.
