This gives all the benefits of fast, automatic focusing while still retaining the ability to make fine focus adjustments before taking the shot.

Intelligent System

Nikon's Internal focus (IF) technology limits all the optical movement to the interior of the non-extending lens barrel. This intelligent system allows for a more compact and lightweight design as well as a closer focusing distance to approximately 45cm (1.5ft). With the non-rotating front element the use of circular polarizing filters and lens-mounted flash accessories is possible making this lens a versatile option.
