Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

While the majority of digital-SLR cameras are equipped with a built-in flash, as these built-in flashes are only able to light a subject from one side and angle, user creativity and expression is strictly limited. External flash units are tools for increasing creativity by maximizing lighting possibilities. However, many users still find external flash units difficult to use and think of them only as a way to capture images of dark or dimly scenes. The SB-700 incorporates functions inherited from the camera, which has been so well received by professional and advanced amateur digital-SLR camera users. This makes the multi-functional SB-700 extremely easy to use, even for beginners. The SB-700 readily responds to the needs of Nikon digital-SLR camera users with a broad range of skills who want to increase their individual power of expression through photographs that make the most of light. The SB-700 is equipped with wireless lighting capability, a feature that is indispensable to creative lighting. However, a condensed form of this function has been built into the SB-700. A control layout and LCD panel design that make operating and applying settings simple, even for beginners, have been adopted. All settings can be applied in just three easy steps, and the LCD panel display is clear and easy to understand for intuitive operation.Quick wireless control mode enables simple control of flash output for two remote flash groups. This is a feature that allows the SB-700 to control flash output levels for flash units assigned to two remote groups, making multiple flash photography setup simple. The flash head is equipped with an internal temperature sensor that controls and suppresses significant increase in the temperature of the flash head that may occur in situations such as uninterrupted firing of the flash with wide-angle shooting to prevent damage to the flash panel.

Excellent Flash 25 Feb 2012
By Pez
Format:Camera
The SB700 is an excellent flash, it is nice quality and very easy to use. The included filters and diffuser are a bonus and make getting your white balance correct indoors easy to achieve. The flash itself seems powerful enough for most situations and recycles quickly, the new soft action thermal protection system is much more pleasant in use than the rather aggressive one fitted to the SB900 (although that one can be disabled). This is the second SB700 I have bought, I use them with a Nikon D700 and Pocket Wizard Mini and Flex TT5, with this set up exposures are very accurate and I would recommend this flash whole heartedly.

I treated myself to some nice additions for my Nikon D90 and D3100 this Chirstmas. I purchased a Coolpix S8200, a 35mm 1.8G, a 50mm 1.8G, and lastly the splendid SB-700 speedlight flash. Firstly, I was well impressed seeing the flash packaged inside a nicely padded zipped bag along with some other goodies packed inside. The SB-700 ships with two attachable filters, a diffusion dome and a flash stand. The flash itself is a joy to use and has made a huge improment to my pictures when using my D90. The pictures look so much better, more natural skin tones and allows for that professional studio look. The flash is very quick at recycling and is ready for another shot within a second or two. I love using this flash in commander mode and tilting the flash head at varying angles from a distance to where I am positioned. This unit has lots of flexibility and features, such as flash concentration from a single dispersion to a more even dispersion setting. The zoom feature is great and automatically recognises my lens type and makes the changes according. The SB-700 also has a built in bounce card and a drop down diffusion. The buttons and main dial feel very nice to the touch and the LCD is very clear to view all the parameter settings of each feature. The LCD lights up in a blue / green colour. I was originally looking to get the small SB-400 flash, but am really glad I decided to spend a little more to get the bigger brother. The tilt and pan feature alone makes the extra money worth spending. I just don't know how I got by without a speedlight flash for so long since owning my D90. Highly recommended if you are serious about your photography.

Just gets better 4 Mar 2012
By Bill
Format:Camera
I've used countless Nikon speedlights over the years, and from the recent line-up had plenty of professional experience of the SB800 and SB600. Good as they were, the SB700 betters them in so many ways. I much prefer the new control layout, where you can have settings for On, Remote and Master and simply switch between them. The Zoom, Select and Menu buttons are backlit, a feature copied by the brand new D4. The tungsten and fluorescent filters are a useful bonus, and the wide angle diffuser fits happily over them. Remembering the days when electronic flash always topped out at around 1/250th I couldn't quite believe that FP sync would work with wireless lighting but it does, right up to 1/8000th! Plenty of power for today's DSLRs when the ISO can be pushed to 1000 and beyond with little loss of quality or increase in noise. Very happy to take on a wide variety of assignments with a couple of these in my bag. Oh, and mine came with a full printed manual in English.
