Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Nikon's high grade HG L series binoculars bring everything into focus and uncover the beauty of the world around you.

Topping off Nikon's acclaimed lineup of binoculars, the six HG L series models are designed for unparallelled performance and comfort. Advanced lens and prism construction delivers sharp, bright images that intensify your viewing experience. Other elements, such as the user-oriented optical and mechanical design, work together to reveal fine details you'd have otherwise missed. And in 42mm objective diameter models, the weight has been significantly reduced. What's more, environment-friendly materials extend the quality of the HG L series even further.

The Overall result is something Nikon believes all binocular users should experience: more moments of clarity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pro Quality Binoculars, 2 Jun 2009

This review is from: Nikon 10X42 Hg L Dcf Binocluars (Electronics)
I have watched birds for 33 years and owned several pairs of binoculars of various makes and seen dozens of good ones, but I had never seen any as good as these. The picture is bright and clear as it usually is in the modern high-grade/high-definition binoculars, but in the Nikon it is also sharp to the very edge of the picture and w/o any chromatic aberration. Normally the edges are more or less blurred and CA is quite common. Also the focusing is very fast, much faster than in any other binoculars that I have seen, only 90 degree turn of the knob from a Robin in few meters to the Buzzards in the clouds. No pre-focusing is needed. There is no slack in the rotation. I have found the Nikon HG 10x42s as an excellent choice for a serious bird watcher.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nikon 10x42 Premier against the competition, 7 Feb 2011
By Heifetz Listener - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Nikon 10X42 Hg L Dcf Binocluars (Electronics)
The 10x42 Premier roof prism binocular is a rebadged 10x42HG/LX_L. Compared to the world's absolute best roof prism glasses it is at least 40% cheaper, has practically 98% of their sharpness in the centre of the viewing field (FOV), is among the best for uniform sharpness across the entire FOV which, however, is narrower than the FOV in the others; it also has 97% of their brightness and contrast(percentage figures are purely indicative). The picture appears a little flat like an LCD screen but horizontals and verticals remain undistorted unlike in most binoculars. When panning the binoculars the image is like a rolling globe which becomes flat as soon as panning is stopped. This is a design feature, a side effect of the remarkable lack of distortion, and one that reduces in intensity with use. In high contrast lighting, purple and yellow chromatic aberration (CA) can be seen on the sharp edges of dark linear objects such as branches against an overcast sky, usually towards the edge of the FOV. CA detracts from sharpness but many users are insensitive to CA and changing the angle of ones eyes very slightly on the eyepiece may remove the CA. Eyeglass wearers will find it among the most comfortable of binoculars. The focussing wheel is the smoothest and fastest of any binocular, taking the shortest of turns to go from zero to infinity. The locking collar for diopter adjustment of the right eyepiece is an excellent design which does not go out of alignment. Build quality is not exceeded by any binocular. Only the porro type binoculars may impart a more stereoscopic quality to the view. There are very few porros produced any more and among the best are those by Nikon. The 10x42 Premier is strongly recommended, especially for those who demand the best at a non-stratospheric price. Especially good for spectacle wearers.
