SPREAD THE WORD PRESENTS: DIVERSITY IN POETRY
In 2007 Southbank Centre hosted the first public debate of the Free Verse report. The report revealed the shocking figure that less than one per cent of major press publications are by black and Asian poets. Five years later this figure has not changed.
Some of the most exciting contemporary poets - including Christian Campbell, Nii Parkes, Imtiaz Dharker, Patience Agbabi and Daljit Nagra - talk about how their cultural heritage has informed their poetry.
In a time of celebration of global poetry, they explore what diversity really adds to the landscape of British Contemporary Poetry.
The event is hosted by novelist and poet Bernardine Evaristo MBE, a driving force for diversity in British literature. The event is curated by Dr Nathalie Teitler with Spread the Word, London's writer development agency, supporting creative writers of all forms and at all stages of development and with a particle interest in uncovering new voices and developing talent through long-term relationships with writers.
In Partnership with Spread the Word. |
