Danish thriller 11 Nov 2010
By Jo
Format:DVD
The scene is set, a young man gets a job as a night watch in a morgue and we emmediately expects ghosts and other paranormal performances. However, being typically Danish, this film goes deeper than the usual scare and creepy crawleys. As so many other Danish films, this film certainly takes a good look at the various relationships people have with each other, and the viewer will undoubtedly question these during the film. A psychological thriller with quite a bit of good Danish humor. Watch it !

Format:VHS Tape
Like the Vanishing and La Femme Nikita before it, the original Nightwatch makes its American remake (with Ewan MacGregor) pale in comparison.

The power of this version is its ability to shock, to take you unawares. It's intrinsically dark, and, be warned, definitely not for the faint-hearted.

To tell you anything of the plot would ruin the whole effect of the film. Let's just say that murder, necrophilia, and a drunken bet are at the heart of the story.

My advice is simple, turn off the lights, pour yourself a stiff (no pun intended) drink , and prepare to be scared witless. Oh, and another thing, don't even think of watching this film on your own.

Really good 8 May 2010
Format:DVD
For anyone who doesn't mind subtitles, this is the original and surely the best version of NightWatch. Great characters, twists and turns, and the humour make this a great film. Even the ending is spot on. Thoroughly recommended viewing.

Dark little Danish thriller.
This is an effective little Danish horror/thriller from 1994, rather misleadingly marketed by mentioning "Saw" and "Se7en" on the cover; this marketing ploy has done the film no... Read more

Don't believe the hype, and ESPECIALLY NOT THE BLURB!
Bought this on a recommendation.
Saw the overwhelmingly positive reviews on imdb and fell victim to the blurb - making it out as a forerunner to "Se7en" and "Saw". Read more

Slow, very slow!
I bought this film because Sofie Gråbøl is in it and, after watching her in The Killing, I thought this earlier film might also be a taut, suspenseful thriller. Read more

Cover references Saw and Severn? Who writes this rubbish? As for the 18 classification? 15 at most! Seen episodes of Waking the dead much more graphic than this. Read more

Pedestrian & very predictable
I watch quite a few `world' cinema films and usually find them vastly more enjoyable to the mainstream Hollywood offerings, but in this case I felt rather bored by the proceedings! Read more
