More About the Author

New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost has always been drawn to the strange. As a child, she and her sisters would sneak out and watch horror movies at every opportunity. At 12, she began writing poetry. Shortly after that, she read her first romance novel, and it was love at first read! She knew she wanted to write her own novel someday, but figured she had plenty of time. That same "plenty of time" mentality also lingered past her teens and through her twenties, however. It wasn't until Frost was almost 30 that she realized she'd either have to start then--or resign herself to never doing it.

She chose the former. When she sat down to write her novel, she knew it had to have her two favorite elements in it: urban fantasy and romance. Everyone has a favorite "What if they were real?" creature. For Frost, it's vampires. The first time she went to Sunday school, her minister pointed to the cross on the wall and asked her if she knew what it stood for. With all of the logic of a 5-year-old, Frost replied, "Yes, that's what keeps the vampires away!"

5.0 out of 5 stars exciting new world and characters 15 Nov 2012
By Jeannie Zelos TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Jeanine leaves the vampires behind in this book - its peopled with humans, Fallen, Demons (purebloods) an half demons such as our heroine Mara. Mara is trying to seek revenge on the pureblood who took her cousin Gloria some years previously. Purebloods feed on half demons and Mara is afraid her sister will be taken by the one that killed Gloria. Mara lives in the human world but half demons such as herself can travel dimensions into the realm of Nocture - ruled by the delicuos Raphael. Mara was rescued by him when she was 15 and with her cousin and promised him not to return til she was older. Now she's 22 and enters Nocturna once again and gets wrapped up in danger, romance, recues and more danger - all the usual we've come to expect from Jeanine's pen ( or PC !)

I loved this book - i'm not usually a fan of novellas but Jeanine is one of my favourite writers so I bought this book and don't regret it. I'd like to see more from the world of Nocturna - its very different to so many created worlds and I think there's great potential for Mara and others to go onto more adventures in the same way as Cat and Bones did in the Huntress series.

Its a decent length novella at 799 KB ( i think that works out to 200+ pages) and good value at just £1.99 for a well established author. I was surprised to find it ended at 80% on kindle as the remaining 20% is sample of a Linsey Piper book - an author i'm unfamilair with but I'll read the sample and hopefully find some new books to enjoy!

If you love paranormal worlds with romance, "real" characters and adventures then this book is for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a Patch on Previous Work 14 Feb 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was really looking forward to this, having thoroughly enjoyed previous work by this author. What a major disappointment. The plot line is transparent, the characters are complete stereotypes with no individuality and the writing is wooden. Totally off form, the whole thing felt as if it had been written to a publishers deadline not to tell a story.

I started reading Jeaniene Frost on my Kindle. I really enjoyed Night's Darkest Embrace - it's a fact paced, romance short-story type thing. Well worth a read if you're feeling a bit random.
