4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing talent, comic perfection 16 Nov 2005
Format:Audio CD
A chance to hear Woody Allen at his surreal best, discussing (amongst other things) vindictive mechanical objects, childhood traumas, his life and (my favourite) his kidnapping ordeal, which I still belly laugh at every time.
Be warned - the content of this CD is broadly similar (perhaps VERY similar) to the more recent STANDUP COMIC release!

5.0 out of 5 stars early & Excellent Woody Allen material 26 Jun 2007
Format:Audio CD
The night club Years- early and hilarious recordings of his stand-up comedy era! Makes a GREAT gift to anyone who appreciates Woody's rich sense of humour. A lot of the lines you hear on "take the money & run"; "Play it again Sam"; "Annie Hall" were already being told at this time during his stand-up comedy days. And yes i agree with the previous review: the kidnapping story is a killer! Stay away if you have a heart condition!

5.0 out of 5 stars Razor-sharp, timeless humour 21 Nov 2008
By William Cohen VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
I write speeches, so I was delighted to discover Woody Allen's beautifully-structured monologues. His breathing, his voice modulation and his timing repay careful study. It's intriguing to think about why something as simple and absurd as the Moose story is so hilarious.

I loved his story about meeting Hemingway and Gertrude Stein. This is an essential recording for any comedy library.

5.0 out of 5 stars PURE GENIUS 5 Mar 2014
Format:Audio CD
Long before Woody got into films, he was a stand up comedian. He comes across just as one would imagine - as a nervous little Jewish guy with a huge inferiority complex. This persona is no doubt an exaggerated version of himself which he uses masterfully in a series of clever, witty and at times side splitting monologues.

There are sketches here that still make me cry with laughter. I wish he would consider returning to the stage; he was so talented at it.

Please note that you should own the 'Stand Up' album or this, as both are very similar in content.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just as I remembered 22 July 2012
Format:Audio Cassette|Verified Purchase
This cassette has excerpts from Woody Allen's stand up routines. Most have stood the test of time. A great giggle.
