My family have been big Philip Caveney fans since the Sebastian Darke books and this new adventure doesn't disappoint. Young Kip leads an uneventful life in and around his Dad's dilapidated old cinema, The Paramount, until the arrival of a new projectionist - the shadowy Mr Lazarus. Rather unusually, the old man comes equipped with his own projector, the mysteriously-named "Enigma Machine". Kip soon finds out exactly what the device is capable of when he's beamed straight into a film and has to find a way of escaping in one piece before the final credits roll.

It's a thrilling set-up and as ever the story rattles along with the pace of a runaway train. And as an added bonus for parents who grew up before the age of the multiplex (maybe I'm showing my age here), the scenes set in the Paramount are wonderfully nostalgic. I always used to think, as I sat on those red crushed-velvet seats with my Kia-Ora, that the projectionist's booth looked like a magical sort of place. Night on Terror Island proves I was right all along. :)

exciting concept 10 July 2011
Format:Paperback
I loved the concept of this book. The potential to be stuck in a film forever. I also liked the fact that the actors thought themselves to be the characters but were dumbfounded when asked about their supposed professions. It is a well written book with a brilliant concept. The characters were so well written that a mental image was conjured up of what they looked like. Would definitely recommend this book.

I loved the Sebastian Darke stories and thoroughly enjoyed this too. A fun, imaginative & original story, which I became completely engrossed in. I found it to be very well written as with all the books by Philip Caveney...
