Lisa Jane Smith is the author of more than twenty books for young adults, including the bestselling Night World, Secret Circle and Vampire Diaries series (now a hit-series on ITV2). She lives in Northern California, in a rambling house in a small town.

How strange that readers can have the complete opposite experience. I loved this book, so much so I immediately bought the 2nd one.

It's three short stories in one book, but all the characters are connected, and I loved the idea of the night world. Personally I thought 'it was' cleverly written.

Don't expect blood and gore though, they are more love stories. So if you are into the goth culture in a romantic way, this is the book for you. You'll be dreaming of finding your 'soulmate' and being a vampire with sexy powers by the end of it...!!

The nightworld series is a great series. I remember getting the first book free with a magazine! Awesome read. That was nearly 11 yrs ago! From book 1 i was hooked, buying the rest as they were released. Then, tragedy the last book never was released! I understand that due to family issues that it was hard to write the following book, and the web site, while updated regually with tales from the series didn't help with when we could expect the next book. The short stories on the web site are set after the events of strange fate! but since no-one has read the 10th book none of us know what happened! Imagine my excitment when i was told 3 yrs ago that it would be released in sept 06, then my utter dissappointment when it didn't get released! I have waited a long time to read the book and now we are told next yr! I truely hope so.
And for those of us now in our 20's (in my case late 20's) i have interesting news for fans, L J Smith is rumored to be re-writing the whole series for adults! so that we may enjoy the original stories with a more in depth and adult veiw of the nightworld! I sincerly hope this to be true and think if this were to come about, the series may well rate with the likes of Laurell k Hamiltons Anita Blake series and other well known vampire lit authors.
Let us prey that this last release date will pass and we get to read the last book we have all eagarly awaited.

For anyone who hasn't read the night world series and wonders what all the fuss is about, I would start at the beginning and read this book first. (Some of the character's names you might come across in other NW books). The Night World books are incredibly readable and satisfying and has what a lot of fantasy books lack, which is the ability to keep the audience's interest. Rather than over-emphasising on excessive description, this story is grounded in the real world but adds a fantasy world around it. The character's are thoroughly enjoyable and once you pick up the book, you won't put it down until it's finished. I didn't.

This is the first book in the NightWorld series a place where vampires, werewolf's, shapeshifters and witches live together and avoid humans so they dont realise what they are.
The Nightworld series is about people of the NightWorld, finding there soulmantes but in the process revealing there secrets to humans.
Secret Vampire is the first in this series and is a excellent book, Poppy a young human girl finds out that she is dying from a form of cancer (you cant help feeling so sorry for her, shes such a sweet character) and then theres her dark brooding best friend James who will try anything to keep his best friend from dying, even revealing the NightWorld to her and trying to convince her to turn into a vampire like him so she can stay alive with him forever, how romantic!
There are many twists to this story that you dont expect to happen and the way they both realise there love for eachother makes a very liekable story.
L.J.Smith has created a very believable world hidden from our view that you can actually believe is out there somewhere, and her characters are so nice and kind that you can relate to them straight away and believe that they exist.
I would recommend this book to and child or young adult who likes a good fantasy romance!
So in conclusion BUY THIS BOOK

The Night World isn't a place. It s all around us. It s a secret society of vampires, werewolves, witches, and other creatures of darkness that live among us. They re beautiful and deadly and irresistible to humans. There are only two rules, punishable by death.

The Night World laws say it's okay to hunt humans. It's okay to toy with their hearts. It's even okay to kill them. There are only two things you can't do with them:

1) Never let them find out the Night World exists; and
2) Never fall in love with them.

This series of novels explores what happens when these rules are broken.

Given a spanking new contemporary cover and including the first 3 novels in the Nightworld series, I am delighted to see that this series has been "re-vamped", if you will, for a new generation.

If you read the Twighlight Saga hoping to be thrilled, excited and moved then this is the series that actually delivers.

Secret Vampire, is a touching introduction to the Nightworld series. The world is turned on itself when Poppy is diagnosed as having a devestating, terminal illness. But her best friend James has a startling secret, the opportunity to offer her eternal life. Can he break all the rules to save her and introduce her to the nightworld, or will the nightworld turn against them and condemn them both?

In Daughters of Darkness Mary-Lynette is disatisfied with her restricting, dull small town existence when her neighbour invites her three strange and incredibly beautiful "neices" to come to stay. While at first she is merely curious, events take a macabre turn when she spys the three startling girls bury what seems to be a body in their aunt's back garden. Mary-Lynette and her brother Mark are drawn irrevocably into the deadly Nightworld.
