Six entertaining short stories, each complete in themselves, but each adding to the lore of Kane. I first came across the Kane character in an anthology which contained 'Sing a Last Song of Valdese', the sixth story in Nightwinds. That story truly gripped me and on its own was enough to make me search out other Wagner books especially those adding to the history of Kane.

1. Undertow - What would you do to make immortality bearable. Make another immortal as a companion? But what would that immortal want?
2. Two Suns Setting - Finding the attention of jealous humans too much? Then travel with a pre-human giant for philosophy and adventure.
3. The Dark Muse - Friendship is rare enough for Kane that he'll take some unusual risks for a poetic friend, unusual even for him. What price art? Well the poet finds out.
4. Raven's Eyrie - Have you noticed that when things are going badly that is when they suddenly get much worse? Seems to be the same for immortals.
5. Lynortis Reprise - Even Kane can tire of senseless slaughter but what are his choices?
6. Sing a Last Song of Valdese - Lust and greed can lead to evil acts but can love lead to worse?

Kane: first murderer from the human race, rebelled against the god that created Man, consequently cursed to live forever unless he himself is violently killed, after several lifetimes of boredom and frustration he isn't inclined to suffer fools or enemies gladly, and it's dangerous enough being Kane's friend let alone his enemy. He's picked up a few skills over his lifetimes: mage, warrior, assassin, general, pirate, priest, bandit but most of all he's a killer. His ambitions lead him to mix with the class of person that you might think deserve Kane's attentions. Unlucky for them. That's what makes the stories entertaining....

Is immortality a blessing or a curse? Immortal Kane's nightmare journey through time continues in these short stories. How does he make his lover immortal, and why does she flee? What is the murderous secret of Raven's Eyrie? What is the nature of the ultimate poem? What price the betrayal of a city? How can a damned immortal bring justice? Find the answers in Night Winds.

Kane battles Lucifer for his soul. 16 Dec 1997
By Stormbringer@sprintmail.com - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Kane finds himself near death from a recent battle under a strange moon. Taking refuge with his comrades in an inn he is subtley reminded of past transgressions here. A woman he has once wronged has made a pact with the devil promising her child, the result of her union with Kane, as payment for the devil's help in taking Kane's soul/life and repaying the torment he has given her in the life of her daughter. Kane discovers the pact through logic and the hints of his daughter while trying to escape those that pursue him for a different type of justice. Hampered by his wounds and the need to escape his pursuit, Kane must stop the raving woman from sacrificing his daughter to Lucifer and thus losing his own soul in the process. I highly reccomend the entire Kane series to anyone and of all the books this one is perhaps my favorite.

Absolutely excellent horror fantasy short stories 11 Feb 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
If you were immortal, what would your moral code be? Would you gain a reputation as bad Kane's? Would you develop skills like his to survive, especially if you were as certain of the demons that awaited you after death? Kane is not just a violent Sword and Sorcery anti-hero, he is a character you can identify with because you might make the same choices as he does. These are the best fantasy stories I've read, and re-read and read again!
Dark Fantasy Masterpiece 5 Jun 2011

Great short stories about Kane. The character is based off the Cain of the Bible, but the author has his own take about that. Kane has the blue eyes of a murderer, and he's deadly in combat, and unless someone is powerful enough to kill him in battle, Kane will live forever. This is a great anti-hero, and has some awesome fight scenes. I highly recommend it if you like dark, tough-guy stories.
