Only a month ago, singer-songwriter Sky Ferreira released her long-awaited full-length debut album "Night Time, My Time", which has been well received critically, even if it raised quite a few eyebrows with its shocking album cover. Now already comes this companion release of sorts to the debut album.
"Night Time, My Time: B-sides, Part 1" (5 tracks; 19 min.) is, as the title indicates, a mix of odds-and-ends which didn't find a place onto the debut album but are (supposed) related tracks. The collection starts with "I Can't Say No To Myself", a non-album track. It is followed by "I'm On Top" and, best of all, "Werewolf (I Like You)", which she has been playing during her shows. Then comes the headscratcher, "Everything Is Embarrassing", which already appeared on last year's (excellent) "Ghost" EP and is great but really has nothing to do as such with the new album. And for good measure we get a bonus remix version of it as well (the "Unknown Mortal Orchestra Remix").
Bottom line: this EP is worth getting for the first three songs. If you already have the Ghosts EP (like I do), the last 2 tracks are filler. I had the good fortune of seeing Sky Ferreira and her band in concert earlier this summer at the Bunbury music festival here in Cincinnati, and it was quite the set, that is until her voice gave out and she had to stop after 25 minutes. Meanwhile, this EP is non-essential but for the Sky Ferreira die-hards. Check out the album instead.
