I know this review is not going to please some Queen fans who can't cope with a negative review of their favourite band no matter what. But let's get things straight right from the start.I'm a Queen fan and have all their albums excluding the endless compilation albums released over the years. This review is for the re-release of this album in 2011 not the music itself which is priceless!
After a long association with EMI,Queen are now being marketed through Island/Universal Music. And just as they did when they have acquired other artists back catalogue(The Rolling Stones,Mike Oldfield) it's time to re-release it all.Starting with Queen's first five albums, the rest to follow later in the year. And just like they did with The Stones catalogue, you can purchase a box set with space for the yet to be released titles.I bought all the Queen albums via the Japanese remasters in 2002 which look and sound incredible.
What Universal are releasing as supposed deluxe editions for the Queen albums is frankly embarrassing.Bonus tracks off previously released live albums is hardly what I'd call raiding the vault. The lack of unreleased material and video content make these reissues a waste of money and gives further weight to the opinion of cashing in on the Queen name by Brian and Roger.Give us something not released like the videos from "Innuendo" just for starters. If you're looking for the REAL deluxe edition of this awesome album by Queen then look no further than here,
A Night at the Opera: Remastered/+DVD. Now that's a deluxe edition!
As it was released on EMI it won't be available for much longer.Buy it before it's deleted. You won't be disappointed.
I love the music of this band and am quite frankly sick of the same old stuff being rehashed.
The so called "Absolute Greatest" released in 2009 was a sign of things to come.
As Amazon reviews are meant to be for the product itself,as well as the music/content,I think this is not worthy of a favourable review.
One star for this so called deluxe edition(I'm sorry,I don't call a super jewel case and scant bonus tracks a deluxe edition)and another star because it is one of Queen's best and in my opinion,a must own title. If you just want the album save your pennies and buy the single disc edition. If you want more Queen for your pound, buy the EMI deluxe edition via the link above, get some extra video content for every song, the entire album in dts 5.1 surround and a commentary track from the boys on the making of the album.Much better value than this reissue.
What a poor effort from Universal Music. The album and music itself is,of course, five stars *****!
***Postnote The 30th Anniversary Edition is very quickly becomimg rare around the world. If you are chasing a copy I suggest you pick one up asap.
