"They had a bloodthirsty lust for human flesh!", The tagline from the absolute classic Night Of The Living Dead, directed by one of the most influential horror directors of all time, George A. Romero.

This film is oone of the scariest Zombie flicks of all time, despite the hundreds of terrible zombie-based imitations of this classic. The film was made at a time of film revoltion in the world, and was the first to graphically show explicit scenes of people being eaten alive.

The storyline is an original one and has got some great ideas added into it. The radiation from a fallen satellite causes the recently deceased to rise from their burial places, and seek living flesh as food.

The film starts with two young siblings who visit their mothers grave, three hours from their home. The brother,Jonny, starts teasing his sister, Barbara (Judith O'Dea, saying that theman accross the graveyardis aftr her. She starts apologising to the man when he jumps on her and tries to eat her. Jonny fends him off as Barbara runs. She ends up in a farmhouse with six other people. They barricade themselves in, to try and survive from the onslaught of hoarding zombies.

Stomach-churning tension non-stop throught the film, mixed with eerie tunes, make this a truly terrifying film.

I reccomend this to any true fan of the horror genre.

By Mr. Gerard Mcnamara VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
This is where it all truly started. George Romero became famous because of this movie which began the fantastic series of movies all based on the dead returning to life hungry for the flesh of the living.

A low budget movie filled with tension and a wonderful performance by the lead actor, the end is so unHollywood it is a really great finish (if somewhat sad). The zombies themselves are very scary, simply because they move so slowly but seem nearly unstoppable. The group of survivors also build up tension amongst themselves which leads to disaster. This movie was also a real study in American cutlture of its time with the lead actor being black and his main living antagonist being white.

The movie is in black and white which adds to the tension of the movie and the fact that it is an older movie and there is no special effects and cgi improves the movie (in a world where modern movies often rely upon special effects and big budgets rather then acting and build up of tension), this movie is a breath of fresh (zombie decaying!) air.

A Classic. 4 July 2004
Format:DVD
Even after all these years this film remains creepy. I think the fact that it is black-and-white actually helps the film out, it does seem to add the the creepiness factor.

Everyone knows what this film is about, and how important to the horror movie industry so I won't bore you with plot details. I think everyone should try to see this film at least once. It is a million times better than the 1991 remake, and it's the first of what is arguably the best trilogy in horror movie history.

Personally, the film's first sequel, 'Dawn of the Dead' is my favourite of the trilogy.
