4.0 out of 5 stars Kolchak Vampire & Weirdo Hunter , 14 Feb 2007
By C. Hill "C.Hill" (St.Helens, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I first saw this in about 1975 on normal TV, I was about 7yrs old and a Hammer film fanatic, still am. I managed to get it from the USA about 2 years ago and 'The Night Stalker' still stands up well. A powerful guy snatching girls at nightfall with eyes of the devil and the power of 20 men, only Kolchak (Darren McGavin) has the nerve or general nosiness of a reporter to check it out. When he finally tracks the vampire down he wishes he hadn't because he is genuinely frightened and no one believes there is a vampire loose anyway. Supported by his gorgeous accomplice (Carol Lynley) Kolchak gets his man/thing in the end.
The Night Strangler story is a little weaker about a 120yr man living in a city below the streets who again is snatching girls. The similarity with this and the X-files is the episode of 'Toombs' in the modern series. The Night Strangler & Toombs or even 'IT' from Stephen King, appear every 20-30yrs to regenerate themselves to look young again by killing or feeding off humans to survive. The Night Strangler is played by 'Richard Anderson (Oscar Goldman from Six Million Dollar Man)' there is also a rare appearance from a now old lady who played the 'wicked witch in the Wizard Of Oz' she plays an expert in the library who traces all the old records of previous similar crimes. All in all these are well worth a watch all over again !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Tale of Another City, 5 Oct 2007
By M. A. Ramos (Florida USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
The Voice is familiar: It belongs to reporter Carl Kolchak: "This is the story behind the most incredible series of murders to ever occur in the city of Seattle, Washington. You never read about them in your local newspapers or heard about them on your local radio or television station. Why? Because the facts were watered down, torn apart and reassembled, - in a word, falsified."

The Night Strangler is a made for TV movie sequel to the Night Stalker. It takes place in Seattle, Washington. Here Carl Kolchak is reunited with his old editor, the vocal Tony Vincenzo. In this case, Kolchak is investigating a series of murders of young women. With the help of a research clerk they uncover a series of serial murders going back nearly a century and repeating every 21 years, tracking down the perpetrator.

This sequel is excellent and one of the few good Jack the Ripper movies, with a unique twist. The film shows an extensive underground city. I took a trip to Seattle to see this, and it is not as extensive as the film.
