Product Description

Product Description

By the author of 'Hyena Dawn', 'Night of the Predator' is the powerful story of a family fighting for survival in a land on the brink of apocalypse. Dr Max Loxton, environmentalist and entrepreneur, has an obsession: to save one of the most sacred areas of Africa from certain destruction at the hands of an unscrupulous mining company. It is an obsession that draws him into a world of deceit and treachery, threatening to destroy his new-found love, his fortune and his love.

David Loxton, Max's father and deadly adversary, is a politician and armaments manufacturer. Determined to build his country to a position where it controls the future of Africa, he has enlisted the support of right-wing fanatic, Dolph Klopper, who dreams of the resurrection of a race of supermen.

Sweeping from the boardrooms of Johannesburg, to the wilds of Botswana, from secret cabals in the townships to ex-Nazi hideouts, 'Night of the Predator' is a fast-paced thriller of terrifying topicality. It is a chilling reminder of what might have happened had Nelson Mandela been assassinated after his release.

2.0 out of 5 stars A bad copy of Wilbur Smith! 16 Dec 2013

Although this began well it deteriorated into a poor copy of about 5 Wilbur Smith novels but without the quality of the writing.

Good overall plot but there are just too many improbables. Too many inexplicable gaps in scenarios. Several scenarios not developed well to enrich the story. Almost as if the author was in a hurry to finish. Wouldn't recommend.

1.0 out of 5 stars Appalling 15 April 2013

I would like to be kind and criticise contructively but I cant. This boo is that bad. I started but I will be unable to continue. An absolute waste of time. The kindest way to describe this book would be to say that it is amateurish. The most accurate way to describe it would be as appalling! An analogy would be like the low budget Italian cowboy movies of the 60's.. Wake up Christopher ! Characters have to be real life, with just a little more - a little larger than life but believable. Plots have to be developed not just presented as a fait accompli. Your readers are not 14 year old adolescents, or are they?

1.0 out of 5 stars Night of the Predator, perverted sex overwhelms story 8 Nov 2013

The sexual perversions predominate so I did not read past a chapter. The story line would have been excellent minus the take on sex. Won't read this author again.

3.0 out of 5 stars review 14 Nov 2013

Why is it that books from kalahari are so inferior ? Towards the last part of the book grammar , punctuation etc seem to be ignored? I am thinking that I should rather buy the paper-back, at least I get the real book.
4.0 out of 5 stars Very well written - lots of intrigue 16 May 2014

A bit too much blood, guts & killing for my liking. I still love reading about places that I know.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good text with plenty of suspension about worst chase scenario in South Africa, against undesierable 23 April 2014

There are many interesting and thoughtful parts in this book, which handles the last days of apartheid in SA. The sedimentary Calvinism religion within the old Boer community, brain washing younger generations, brings about dangerous fundamentalism. The atrocity in Soweto is built on the Nazis genocide of undesirables 50 years before.
Fundamental Christians are no better than Wahhabism and Salafism, when indoctrinated to youngsters.
The remark made by the Bushmen at the last campfire of Dr. Loxton. The fire was big and the Bushman, remarked that the Bushmen only used fire material which was enough to heat their meal.
With our overpopulated world, this we should think about.
It is enlighten to read about Botswana, it is not much in the news as it is a well-managed country on African standard ant there are many National Parks.
Elías Kristjánsson, Iceland.
