The heroine is Georgiana Escott she finds out that her Uncle Phineas and her guardian Lord Danvers have arranged a marriage for her to Lord Harris. Georgiana is horrified as Lord Harris has buried many wives and is considered a despicable roué. Lord Harris insists that his wife be a virgin and to that end a doctor will examine Georgiana the next day. Realizing that she has one night to find the perfect man to ruin her she sneaks out(with the help of her young sister) and goes to the Cyprian ball.
The hero is Captain Colin Danvers he has just been cashiered out of the navy and his fiancé has given him the push. His cousin the Marquis of Templeton takes him to the Cyprian ball to cheer him up.
Some of the best lines come as Georgiana tries to get Colin to take her to bed, whilst Colin is playing the gentleman. However Georgiana wins and come the morning sneaks back home, but her Uncle offers her sister to Lord Harris when Georgiana fails the test, so they flee to Italy.
When they meet a year later Colin thinks she maybe the traitor he seeks and she realises he is Lord Danvers her guardian who was willing to marry her off to the despicable Lord Harris. Just when they might resolve things their ship is captured by the French and then the action and adventure really begins.
With lots of adventure, humour and steamy scenes coupled with brilliant writing good motivations and great characters both good and evil, this is a book I loved.
