Book Description

On a bright September morning in 1939, two days after Britain has declared war, a group of privileged but desperate people gather in Southampton to board the largest, most luxurious airliner ever built - the Pan American Clipper, bound for New York: an English aristocrat, fleeing with his family and a fortune in jewels; a German scientist, escaping from the Nazis; a murderer under FBI escort; a young wife running away from a domineering husband; and a handsome, unscrupulous thief . . . 'Master of the romantic thriller' Daily Telegraph

About the Author

Ken Follett was only twenty-seven when he wrote the award-winning EYE OF THE NEEDLE, which became an international bestseller. His celebrated PILLARS OF THE EARTH was voted into the top 100 of Britain's best-loved books in the BBC's the Big Read and the sequel, WORLD WITHOUT END, will be published in Autumn 2007. He has since written several equally successful novels including, most recently, WHITEOUT. He is also the author of non-fiction bestseller ON WINGS OF EAGLES. He lives with his family in London and Hertfordshire.

5.0 out of 5 stars Night Over Water Ken Follett 27 Mar 2012
By David
Format:Kindle Edition
I read this book about 10 years ago, in hardback format, and found it incredibly terrific, couldn't put it down. It was the first Ken Follett that I had read, and since then have had the pleasure to read a great many more of his novels.
He is a wonderful author, and all of his books, keep me intrigued.
As has been mentioned in other reviews the Boeing 314, run by Pan Am, must have been a truly great aircraft in its day, as were the crews.
To all of those browsing, and considering getting the KIndle edition of this novel, I would recommend it, you will enjoy, I promise you.
This truly is a great story,

4.0 out of 5 stars A quick, fun read 25 July 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
"Night over water"'s unique characters, easy language, interesting plot and setting makes it very enjoyable to read. If you want something "light" to read, this should be your choice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Night over water 24 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought the Kindle version mainly on the strength of other reviews, the majority of which were very positive. However, I found the storyline unimpressive and the characters straight out of Mills & Boon. Follett is an excellent author but has let himself down badly with this book. It suggests to me that he had a good idea for a 50 page book, which he then turned into a 300 page book by padding out the chapters with a great deal of unnecessary and irrelevant detail and gratuitous sexual encounters.
Not his best by a long way I'm afraid. 2 out of 5 - must try harder!

3.0 out of 5 stars lightly entertaining
A pleasant easy read but nothing more. Gave an insight into what the 'clipper' must have felt light in the early years of the war.

3.0 out of 5 stars Did not enjoy
This had a fairly good review but I did not enjoy it. I felt I was reading a childrens story. Too many characters and a rather weird plot. Nothing like as good as Mr. Read more
