I've been waiting for this book since reading the preview at the Harlequin Blaze website. Night Driving is a follow up book to Lori Wilde's Born Ready (Harlequin Blaze). In Night Driving, Boone Toliver (who has been injured by a bomb in Afghanistan) is home and - as the book puts it - is bored, bummed out, and bitter. He's also annoyed by his permanently perky & pesky neighbor, Tara Duvall. When Boone finds out his sister is leaping into marriage with a guy she barely knows, Boone's determined to get to her before the I Do's and stop her from making the same kind of mistake he did.
Problem? Boone's injuries prevent him from driving and flying. What's a desperate big brother to do? Recruit a car pool buddy online.
Bigger Problem? His car pool buddy turns out to be his now-moving (did I mention sexy?) neighbor Tara.
Hmmm. Two people who are reluctantly attracted to each other, stuck together in a car, all day and all night, driving from Montana to Florida for hours and hours and thousands of miles? What could possibly go wrong? Lots apparently, and that's what made this book so much fun to read.
I loved the banter between the characters. I loved how well they understood each other. I loved that, while there was great chemistry and sexual tension between Tara and Boone, there was a real relationship & romance developed between the two. I loved talk of Fate/Destiny, of crossroads and choices, of life-changing events that force you to confront the "What Do I Do Now?" when life throws a curve-ball at you, and the ability of a person to get up, dust themselves off, and start over again no matter how scary it might be.
Wilde's great sense of humor is on full display here. I laughed my way through the book and I love being able to enjoy a book that much. I read this book in one afternoon and resented every time I was interrupted.
Great book, excellent writing, and fabulous, fun, flirty characters with heart. Solid romance. I've already pre-ordered all the books in this series and can't wait for Smooth Sailing (Harlequin Blaze) and Crash Landing (Harlequin Blaze), the next books in the series.
