Product Description

Featured on the Director of Public Prosecution s original 39-title video nasties list, at last you can see what all the fuss is about in this gore-geous new 16:9 transfer. René Cardona Sr - patriarch of Mexico s number one genre film-making dynasty - delivers this wonderfully silly tale of a dying young man given the heart of a gorilla to keep him alive. Unfortunately the man transforms into a murderous ape-like monster and goes on a girly hunt. Not one to be put-off, the surgeon (his father) tries again - this time with the heart of a female wrestler. This medical-horror-sci-fi masterpiece was written by René and his son René (who, incidentally, had a son called René), neither of whom had even a cursory knowledge of either medicine or science. This makes it w-a-a-y-yy more enjoyable.... No surprise then that this was filmed in just three weeks (in May 1968), largely in Mexico City s Chapultepec Park. While already chock full of gratuitous nudity and femmes-in-peril, US film-maker Jerald Intrator ( Orgy at Lil s Place , Satan in High Heels ) decided to improve on things by adding close-up, super-gory footage of open-heart surgery. He even filmed some new material to spice up the monster s attacks with sanguinary make-up effects and even more nudity

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure trash - pure fun! 19 April 2013

One of the last of the video nasties to have caught up on (I only watch them when I can get them uncut). And indeed this Nucleus Films DVD re-issue is the full uncensored version. And what a hoot it is. So outrageous and silly - but with great cheap gore and sleaze (and some of the gore is actually quite good). Widescreen 1.78:1 16x9 video. The wait for a proper quality release was worth it. Highly recommended for its entertainment value - just leave your brain at the door.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid This Version ! 28 Jun 2008
By Perkins
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This applies to the 'Salvation Films/Film 2000' version-

The film that was presented to the BBFC was the old VHS pre-cut version, why it has 'Uncut' on the box I do not know.
It doesn't run 84 mins., only 77 mins.
It also doesn't feature the 'Theatrical Trailer', just some trailers for Salvation Films own low-rent properties.

I HATE it when companies do this, in any other field it would be called fraud. Still, at least Salvation aren't as bad as (modern day) Vipco.

The 2007 'Redemption DVD' is the uncut version for R2, if you want R1, go for the 'Something Weird' release.

PS I couldn't give it 'No Stars', so I will say it has good picture quality, it's a shame the contents missing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Perkins review 12 Sep 2012
Format:DVD
In checking the reviews on this ready for ordering (I'm a freelance reviewer) I was just wondering how Perkins could actually write even a 1 star review when the film has not yet been released - today is the 12th September and the film doesn't come out until 8th October 2012? curious, perhaps he used a crystal ball to watch this film? His comments clearly relate to a much older release. It will not detract me from placing a pre-order and hopefully everyone else out there will make their own mind up.
