Night at the Museum
An irresistible concept meets computer-generated wonders in Night at the Museum, inspired by a 1993 children's book by Milan Trenc. Ben Stiller stars as Larry Daley, an underachieving inventor waiting for his ship to come in while getting evicted from one apartment after another for lack of funds. Larry's son needs some stability, so the well-meaning ne'er-do-well takes a job as night watchman at New York City's Museum of Natural History. What the soon-to-retire guards (Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Bill Cobbs) don't tell him is that an ancient pharaoh's tablet in the museum causes everything on display to come to life at night. Thus, Larry meets representations of Teddy Roosevelt, Attila the Hun, fire-worshipping cavemen, and Roman Empire soldiers, and learns to cope with an excitable T-Rex and man-eating, ancient animals. The film might have left things at that, but an added story element gives Night at the Museum some extra urgency and excitement, especially for kids: Larry becomes responsible for keeping this nightly miracle going and preventing anything in the museum from dying due to exposure to sunrise. Computer effects, as well as wildly imaginative costumes and makeup, help make the film appeal to the 8-year-old in everyone. Director Shawn Levy (The Pink Panther) works with a hugely talented cast, including Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Ricky Gervais, Carla Gugino, and Steve Coogan. --Tom Keogh

Night at the Museum 2
Ben Stiller wrestles with extinct beasts, historical figures, and meddling monkeys in Night at the Museum 2, the sequel to the popular 2006 special-effects extravaganza. This time, the ancient Egyptian tablet (the one that brings all the exhibits at New York's Museum of Natural History to life at night) is being shipped off to the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.--which, as the movie diligently tells us, is the largest museum in the world. Naturally, former museum guard Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) heads down to rescue it (and, by extension, keep his magical museum friends alive). He ends up fighting with a nasty pharaoh who talks like Boris Karloff (Hank Azaria, The Simpsons) and falling in love with Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams, Enchanted). All the old gang are along for the ride, including Dexter the monkey; much face-slapping and special effects ensue. There aren't many surprises, but Battle of the Smithsonian is cheerful enough to entertain everyone who enjoyed the first movie. The great supporting cast from the first movie returns, including Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, and Robin Williams. --Bret Fetzer

Product Description

Night at the Museum
Ben Stiller leads an all-star cast including Robin Williams in this hilarious blockbuster hit. When Larry Daley (Stiller) is hired as a museum night watchman he soon discovers that all the exhibits come to life after the sun sets. Suddenely, Larry finds himself face-to-face with a frisky T-Rex skeleton, tiny armies of Romans and cowboys and a mischievous monkey who taunts him to breaking point. But he may just figure out a way to control the chaos and become a hero in his son's eyes. Boasting jaw-dropping special effects and laugh-out loud comedy moments, Night at the Museum is your ticket to non-stop fun.

Night at the Museum 2
Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) finds himself in the biggest, most mind-boggling family adventure yet when history comes to life in the local museum. This time the museum is bigger, the adventure is wilder and the bad guys are even more evil... or so they life to think, as an Egyptian pharoah plans to take over the world. Leading an all-star cast (including Amy Adams, Owen Wilson, Hank Azaria, Steve Coogan, Ricky Gervais and Robin Williams), Larry ends up tackling a huge squid and rather pesky monkeys, and takes on his biggest job yet to save the museum and his friends' place in history.

4.0 out of 5 stars night at the museum is a winner 5 Dec 2009
Format:DVD
I love both these movies and think they are great family fun. Ben Stiller has only ever really disappointed me with one film and these are true to his form, amazing. the idea of museum artifacts coming to life is not a unique concept but the way this film has been made makes real characters out of the creatures, skeletons and statues at the museum. every character has a story to tell, knows the history of the person they are portraying or the culture they represent. this film is loosely based around fact which creates an interest in history for younger viewers and to an extent adults alike and creates a magic around learning about it.

i would recommend this film to anyone and have loved watching both films over and over again. good clean family fun, a good cast, robin williams and amy adams are brilliant in the second film and I would go as far as to say one of my top 10 fav films.9/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining 7 Mar 2010
Format:DVD
I bought this for my son, who is nearly six. He thinks both films are hilarious. Ben Stiller and Robin Williams are well cast and, as usual, play very humourous roles. The graphics when the exhibits come alive are very believable and you begin to feel like you are really there in the museum with them.
Both are great films to sit down and watch together as a family, so make some popcorn, dim the lights and enjoy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Night at the Museum 1 & 2 8 May 2014

The Sequel to this film is nowhere near as good as the original film, however Ben Stiller still gives a magnificent performance as night watchman.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ben Stiller <3 1 Jan 2014
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I love any movie with Ben Stiller in BUT as a History fan this movie just screams at me from all corners of life, I love it. The historical terminology and the feel/vibe of the movie just drives me crazy; in a good way. Nothing beats Ben Stiller - Hes just fantastic i do love him no matter what. In both 1&2 he just exceeds the viewer expectations and excels into an entire new level of awesome.
I love the history museums and the setting in the movies. It truly does bring history to life
you learn so much without realizing it

Brilliant film and one you could watch over and over again so good value for money. A bit scary so would need to gauge the sensitivity of your own child if you let them watch it.
