Book Description

A new memoir from Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling author Cathy Glass.

When Cathy receives a call about a terminally ill widower terrified of leaving his son all alone in the world, she is wracked with sadness and indecision. Can she risk exposing her own young children to a little boy on the brink of bereavement?

Eight year old Michael is part of a family of two, but with his beloved father given only months to live and his mother having died when he was a toddler, he could soon become an orphan. Will Cathy’s own young family be able to handle a child in mourning? To Cathy’s surprise, her children insist that this boy deserves to be as happy as they are, prompting Cathy to welcome Michael into her home.

A cheerful and carefree new member of the family, Michael devotedly prays every night, believing that when the time is right, angels will come and take his Daddy to be with his Mummy in heaven. However, incredibly, in the weeks that pass, the bond between Cathy’s family, Michael and his kind and loving father Patrick grows. Even more promising, Patrick is looking healthier than he’s done in weeks.

But just as they are settling into a routine of blissful normality, an unexpected and disastrous event shatters the happy group, shaking Cathy to the core. Cathy can only hope that her family and Michael’s admirable faith will keep him strong enough to rebuild his life.

More About the Author

I live in England and have three children, two birth children and one adopted. When I left school I held a clerical position in the civil service, which I left to start a family. At the same time I became a foster carer, which is the inspiration for much of my writing. I have been a foster carer for over twenty-five years and am what's known as a specialist foster carer, sometimes referred to as a level 3 carer. This is in recognition of my experience and qualifications and means that I am often asked to look after children with complex needs or very challenging behaviour. I have a degree in education and psychology which I was awarded as a mature student.

I have always been a writer - from when I was at school, with poems in the school magazine. In my teens I began writing short stories, articles, a few radio plays, and entering writing competitions. Like many writers it was a hobby - something I did almost furtively in my spare time, while working, and then later fostering and looking after my family. The two halves of my life - writer and foster carer - came together in 2007 when I wrote about a child I'd fostered and the book immediately became a number one best seller. Since then there have been many bestsellers, thanks to you. I really appreciate all your support and best wishes. Cathy xxx

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving beyond words 14 Sept. 2011
This is one of the most moving but beautiful books that I have ever read. It tells of the true story of a fathers unconditional love for his son and the very emotional journey they make into Cathy's life and family.
It was personally very uplifting to read of a parents unconditional love for their child instead of the usual neglect and abuse inflicted on children prior to coming into the Care System.
I am a huge fan of Cathy's and read and loved all her books but i think this is by far her best book and highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars So moving 7 Nov. 2011
I have read several Cathy Glass books but this was the first to move me to tears. Actual heart breaking sobs in fact! Cathy's books show what a fantastic and sometimes testing job foster carers and their families do. I take my hat off to Cathy and her children who sound just as lovely as they should with her as a mother! Fantastic writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Night the Angels Came - A must read 20 Sept. 2011
By shazbo
started reading this book on Saturday and finished it on Sunday. I was already in tears in the first chapter and more so by the and. A fantastic story, heartwrenching at times but so warm and loving.

As with all of Cathys books you get to know the characters and feel so invloved. It was a pleasure to read of a wonderful boy like Michael and his thoughtful loving father Patrick. I am so glad that Cathy and her family got to know and love them and in turn that they did the same. A truly wonderful book.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this and ALL of the books written by Cathy Glass and cannot wait for the next one to be released.

Well done Cathy and thank you to you and your children. x

5.0 out of 5 stars The Night The Angels Came 29 Aug. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved this book - the first time that I read it last year when I was ill in hospital, and I still do - the second time just as much - it means a lot to me - in two ways as it was the first book that I had been able to read in two years, after the tragic death of my niece three years before - before she died I was a well known book worm, perhaps it was the shock of her death that had caused me to loose my ability to read, its only these last few months almost a year after reading Michaels story- most of the books that I have read since have been Cathys. Michael,s story is the closest to my heart as my own Father whom had brought up my elder siblings and I -as our mother had severe mental health problems -my dad like Patrick - Michaels dad was a mother figure as well as a father - My father also died of Cancer - when I was 10 years old - my sibling's had all left home by time I was 10 and a half years old i was in my role as a child carer. I loved my mum. But that life as hard as a child. As I wasn't as fortunite as Michael. However his story will forever be a part of my heart - God bless you Cathy!
