4.0 out of 5 stars Stylish and spacey 20 Sep 2008
By Dr. Rich Boden VINE™ VOICE
Colour Name:Black
This nice things about this (aside from looking pretty) are that it's a deep dish with a lid (not a plate with a cover, like a traditional butter dish would be) and that it's very big. You can easily fit several block of butter into it and it takes both the "normal" kind and US-style sticks. Because it's an actual dish (not a plate), there's no risk of dropping the butter when trying to get it out of the fridge. The downside? The price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice looks, shame about the smell 8 Jan 2010
By JayBea
Colour Name:Cream|Amazon Verified Purchase
The butter dish looks great and has excellent capacity (it can easily take a 250g block of butter with room to spare). However, as some others have noted, the smell of the wooden lid taints the butter, which the children then refuse to eat. Maybe it only affects some lids, or the lid should be prepared or cleaned in a particular way, but there nothing in the instructions about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it. 21 Aug 2007
Colour Name:Blue
I have had this butter dish for some time and I adore it. I haven't experienced the problems with the smell. I haven't even noticed that the wooden lid has a smell to be honest! It is a huge dish and can quite easily accomodate a 500g block of butter with room to spare. The design of it envokes a traditional feeling, whilest fitting in perfectly with my contemporary kitchen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful in it's simplicity. 13 Dec 2008
Colour Name:Cream|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've ownwed this butter dish for well over a year now. It is, I think, beautiful in it's simplitcity and looks great on my kitchen worktop. It is big enough to store all shapes sizes of butter packs and it is easy to clean. I have had absolutely no problem with the wooden lid tainting the butter even when it has been left out during the hotter summer months.

3.0 out of 5 stars happy and sad 9 May 2010
Colour Name:Cream|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love Nigella's range, and the dish is very useful, but i am very disappointed with the quality of wood on the lid - wood shavings at the side, very dry - will have to try and find something to wax it with - i dunno what! it is unfinished wood so don't put it in the sink to wash. i have not seen this dish in the shops but i would wonder if it is a lower quality that amazon have? wouldn't buy again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Woody smell 13 Jun 2007
Colour Name:Cream
I received this butter dish as a birthday present and was delighted with the style and size but when I started to use it I found that the wooden smell of the lid permeated the butter. I have tried other butter and have treated the wood with oil etc. Short of varnishing it, there doesn't seem much to do other than relegate it to the back of the cupboard, which is a shame.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nigella's Butter Dish 23 Jan 2009
Colour Name:Cream
Love this butter dish! Read reviews about woody smell so to prevent it I smeared a very thin lair of the butter around the lid. This sank in within minutes and I've had no problem with any smell and no, it doesn't go mouldy! A lovely addition to my kitchen although as it's quite heavy and has smooth sides with no grip - perhaps some handles would be better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant design from Nigella's range 12 Jan 2009
By Bridget O VINE™ VOICE
Colour Name:Cream
Aside from the fact it's a bit weird and geeky to be writing a review about a butter dish I have to say that this is brilliant. Yes it does exactly what it says on the tin and holds butter! Great for the kitchen, looks good on the worktop and is heavy enough to stop cats from getting into it.

Obviously that now means I am part of the "Nigella is taking over the world" merchandise fan club but I do recommend it.
