Nigel Jay Robson was born as Nigel J Robson in Finchley, London, but is really a northerner from a long line of Northumbrian farmers dating back to the 1750s in the North Tyne valley. Nigel himself moved from Middlesex with his parents when he was eight years old, 'back' to the family homeland on the Tyne and grew up there, in the market town of Hexham. A decade or so further on he found himself becoming broadcaster 'Nigel Jay' to avoid a clash of 'Nigel Robsons' on air and is probably now best known as 'Jay' among the BBC TV and radio viewers and listeners in England's North West and Midlands. Much more can be found about him by searching 'Nigel Jay' on the internet. He has latterly adopted the canals as a way of life and has happily readopted his Robson name, as author.
