"I started working as an archaeologist and always wanted to write. However life gets in the way. I ended up dealing with the aftermath of racial violence and murder. This culminated with opening a multi racial sixth form college in the centre of Oldham, a town then associated with segregated schooling and the riots. I stayed there as Principal until the college was established as one of the best in the country and an example of how things can be. Then I thought I'd paid my dues and gave up to write , which I do because I love it.
