I had a dream......., 21 Sep 2005
Remember "Two Princes" ? Remember "Cleopatras Cat" ? To refresh your memory the Spin Doctors made 4 studio albums...the classic "Pocket Full of Kryptonite"...then "Turn It Upside Down" after which guitar impressario Eric, quit.....then came "You Gotta Believe in Something".... then bass guru Mark quit during "Here Comes The Bride" after which lead spinner, Chris's voice completely quits...vocal chord paralysis...The End.After that you could only dream about what the Spin Doctors could have been ....... But if you had a dream, you would hope it went something like this : a) Chris somehow recovers, gets his voice back, learns to sing again and starts to writes cohesive mature lyrics b) That somehow the band rekindles their lifelong friendships and remembered why they got together in the first place, starting to write tunes with the drive and enthusiasm of a new band following up their first album. c) That their battle scarred guitarist Eric, dusts down his SG to deliver ten fold from where he left off. d) That Aarons drumming is of the same frenetic and delicate perfection and Marks bass delivers the same intricate doctors funk. e) That the band get a proven producer on board who can put together an album that is highly polished but delivers the rock of a live performance. f) You would then want to dream of the best sounding Spin Doctors album ever made, with 10 infectious grooves from ballads to rock funk classics. You would then want to sleep safe in the knowledge that the Spin Doctors were back, starting again on the small gig circuit, while the world wakes up to the fact that they have delivered a knockout punch.....a comeback album that actually delivers over and over again. Luckily, sometimes, just sometimes ...dreams do come true.

The Spin Doctors Have Grown Up, 13 Oct 2005
Whilst being a fan of the Spin Doctors through the nineties, there was always the impression that there was an element of immaturity about some songs which became a turn-off. (Anyone remember "Biscuit Head" or "Yo mama's a Pyjama"?)This has all changed with the release of Nice Talking To Me. The album has a big mix of styles, ranging from some rock inspired groves such as the title track, (which has the same funk feel as a classic Chillie Peppers Track), to the genuinely moving ballad "can't kick the habit". Every track is one that will stick in the memory as a good tune. Bundled with the Album is a DVD which includes interviews with the band on their re-formation, and 3 full live tracks taken from their recent UK tour. Whether the band re-live their commercial success of the Nineties remains to be seen, but on the basis of this offering, they fully deserve to.

A Welcome Return, 14 Nov 2005
After a succesful start to their career, the Spin Doctors, hindered by band personnel changes and illness, slipped into first obscurity and then near capitulation. However, with the band putting aside their differences and re-forming for their first album in a few years, Nice Talking To Me shows signs of a rosy future ahead for the rock-funk quartet. The title track is as strong-a-rock song as anything the Chili's or The Black Crowes could produce, and songs like Margarita and My Problem Now would surely be huge commercial hits if they received the sufficient amount of air-play they deserve. Happily Ever After is a breath of fresh summer air and Genuine is an awesome four-and-a-half minutes of rock that's just got to be played loud. It's pleasing to see a band of supremely talented musicians return with not only their strongest piece of work to date, but one that should be listed alongside the nominations for album of the year. Superb stuff.
