nothing special here, reminds me of val mcdermid's lindasy gordron series. 2nd in the series of books but the story was easy to follow onn its own.

I enjoy Sparkle Hayter's style. Robin, the heroine is a tv reporter struggling to get out of special reports on the wierdos of New York and trying to do something seriously newsworthy. Hayter's depiction of the newsroom is fascinating and funny and in my opinion much more interesting than the weak excuses for murder and mystery that she entwines with the story. Still it makes an excellent show case for Robin's fatal ineptness at doing anything normally. I love her window boxes full of poison ivy and her vicious yet successful tv star of a cat. Characterisation is her strong point and the books are very enjoyable because of it, along with a sharp eye for the absurd.

Great Second Novel,

I had trouble working out the order SH wrote her books, and read this 4th, although its the 2nd in the series. Do try to read them in order if you can. This is a big improvement on her first novel, and highly recommended - I devoured it in a day over Xmas. Some great comic scenes - especially at the end!
