A remarkable debut album from this talented singer.
Although vocally very different the overall feeling/tone/nature of the music is something akin to what Bjork, Amanda Palmer. P.J.Harvey or Kate Bush might produce being very quirky, eclectic and intense.
A closer simpler musical comparison would be a darker Tori Amos.
It opens with "scream" which has a dramatic noisy start with weird (fairytale?) lyrics, whispered childlike backing vocals and ending with a screamy/thundery ending...quite an opener.
The title of the 2nd track "sexual animals" says it all with erotic lyrics and too much moaning at the end, if you ask me!
There are a couple of nice short instrumentals (celtic flavoured), a rather silly song called "circus type thing" which again is suitably descriptive and some nice piano based ballads but most of the other songs are more "in your face" offerings.
The best track is "valhalla" which opens with a delicate tinkly piano gradually getting more dramatic (sounding a lot like Keith Emerson) with a gorgeous vocal performance by Sarah. This style really suits her voice and i think she sounds better singing these simpler voice laid over piano/violin songs than the more noisy numbers.
If i had one complaint it would be her desire to apparently mess/twist/skew all her songs both vocally & musically instead of leaving them alone to breathe.
There's also a "secret" hysterical laugh after the album has finished.

I was lucky enough to accidentally hear this singer and I fell in love instantly! Her voice is amazing and her music is incredibly moving and interesting at the same time. I compare her to Tori Amos, one of the best singers I've ever heard. But as they have similarities, Sarah Fimm achieves originality and personality in all her compositions and the variety of styles and lyrics never ends. She goes from jazz to electronic music with the same high quality of performance. She surprises and delights in each and every song. I can't stop hearing her cd's! The lyrics are extraordinarily good and they stuck in your mind for days. I can't praise her enough!!! And I love all her music! Nowadays, with music becoming extremely basic and unoriginal, this singer is simply divine! Must have to everyone who likes high quality music! Just impossible not to fall in love with her...
