I already own a Y-Cam internal camera and bought this camera because I could not justify the cost of the external version of the Y-Cam.

As I have already set up one wireless camera to use over the network and remotely using a DDNS host, I found it reasonably easy to set this one up using the supplied software on CD. I can now view it at home, office or on my Android smart phone.

Out of the box I was initially disappointed that the image was blurred, but having done some research on the web I found that it was simply a case of unscrewing the front bezel, removing the glass cover and rotating the camera lens to adjust the focus for the required field of view. I took this opportunity to smear a little vaseline around the seal and thread to aid moisture tightness.

The angle of view is not as good as the Y-Cam but the colour definition is better (In my opinion) also, this camera is one fifth of the price! The night vision is good and the case seems very sturdy.

All in all, a great buy for the price.

Brilliant product and easy to set up as long as you ignore the instruction leaflet! There are much clearer step by step instructions on Youtube which had my camera up and running in 20 minutes.

Beware of the sensitivity settings, the camera has sensitivity of 1 to 10, on level 5 (the default) I was bombarded with so many alert Emails they became spam and were blocked.

Now on a lower setting the function is perfect and a crystal clear picture is sent to me as soon as someone walks on my drive.

I am so pleased I have just ordered another to monitor the back of my house

For a start, these cams don't use DHCP out the box, I do not know why, but they don't and they also need a 192.168.1.x network as they're IP hard coded. If you have a 192.168.2.x network like I did, you need to change that to a 192.168.1.x networkd first, get the camera on using ethernet, then set it up from there. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you may want to look elsewhere for a camera.

Secondly, the lens on these cams are quite long, so if you pin them to the outside of your house, you will only see a very narrow view of where it's pointing. I've had to have mine quite high up and far away to have a meaningful viewable area, then the resolution is not good enough to make out faces, just figures.

The lens does focus (unscrew the protector lens and turn it carefully but firmly.)

After a night out and heavy rain, the front lens had water in it. I took the lens off, emptied the water and cleaned, replacing the lens being carefully to fully tighten it. Next morning it was fogged again and full of heavy condensation.... I don't know if this is from the water the previous night as I don't think it rained - I have my camera facing down at quite an angle, so don't know if the angle is too much that rain can enter from the back.

I'll take everything off again, put grease or something around the points where the cables enter and try again.

Also the silver ring around the reset button has gone rusty.

It's only been outside for a week.

I'm not too impressed.

I've given it 2 stars for the price and the product feels sturdy enough.

I've taken off one star for the crap setup and the fact that full viewing/recording functionality is only possible if you have Internet Explorer (I'm on a mac), one for the narrow field of view and one for the poor weather performance.

I'm sure you can buy better for the price.

A good value home security solution. This was my first IP security camera, I looked at these after looking at pvr solution's. This seemed much simpler and also just as effective. It is not for the technically faint hearted, you need a level of confidence to set this up.
The camera itself looks and feels the part it is solid in design. The ethernet cable that came with mine worked at first but then did not connect as it had a break in it from being folded tightly in the box. This was easily remedied by using a spare.
The manual as OK and there are youtube's showing you set up, so this is a good alternate source of help. Initially my camera would not work with emails and the troubleshooting section in the manual flagged the DNS 1 setting in the set up tool needed to show the same IP under Local PC Information as the DNS1(D) setting in the device information. An easy work around if you are not sure about DNS settings is to select `Set IP Automatically' and let the software sort this out, then uncheck the `Set IP automatically' flag and set a fixed `IP address' in the IP Config section that you will then use for the camera e.g. 192.168.0.170 and a port in an unused range (i.e above 1024).
I set up the alarm to email a gmail account (using smtp.gmail.com, port 587, protocol STARTTLS) and on my routers I set up port forwarding by adding the fixed ip and port I set up for the device. The camera was then good to go. I recommend setting up a separate email account for these emails, if you use the email alarm option.
I did change the bracket as the bracket they provide is OK but I wanted something more sturdy (I also mounted it from the top, not sure if this is recommended but with a sturdier bracket it seems OK.
