Product Description

Next Time, We're Flying Somewhere Sunny*
Travels around Europe in a VW campervan.

'Packed with anecdotes and tales of adventure that will inspire any would-be traveller.' Camper & Bus Magazine

Steve thought it would be a good idea to treat his girlfriend to a Grand Tour of Europe in a VW Campervan. They embark upon possibly the worst holiday ever. They discover that Campervans are really quite small, that the rain in Germany is endless and that Italy has no redeeming features whatsoever. A masterclass in misery.

*Revised edition - swearword free, 'mum-friendly' version!

This book is available as part of the collected travel writing of Steve Roach – the large format deluxe illustrated paperback ‘Terra Firma Travels’ is now available on Amazon, featuring the following four books all bundled together:

Cycles, Tents and Two Young Gents
STEP IT UP!
Next Time, We’re Flying Somewhere Sunny
Mountains, Lochs and Lonely Spots

Amazon Reviews:
--------------------------
Having read a few of Steve Roach's other books, and having always enjoyed his travelogues, I looked forward to this one. Opinionated, sometimes close to obnoxious but always interesting and very often funny - this one is no different.
I'd always fancied the idea of a VW Campervan holiday - at least now, if I do, it I'll be armed with knowledge of things to bear in mind, like the turning distance of such vehicles and not to mention making sure your GPS is up to date for campsite locations.
-----
I really enjoyed this. It perfectly describes the anticipation of a perfect break , and then the utter frustration when all does not go to plan , followed by the occasional moment of bliss when everything falls into place.

1.0 out of 5 stars I'm glad I didn't meet you on my travels 10 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Possibly one of the worst travel books I've ever read. I guess someone who spends their time playing the X Box isn't going to be very creative when camping. A little bit of planning and preparation would go a long way. I find it hard to believe that Venice, Lake Garda, Black Forest couldn't offer more to a traveller. If all you are going to eat is M&S tinned curry what do you expect? Not a bbq? No camping adventures. Personally I don't need to know about someone's toilet habits. Camping in a camper is an adventure it is great fun, meeting people, drinking, being outside back to nature, not truck stops, McDonalds, and shopping for fridge magnets. Don't bother writing if that's all you have to offer.

Downloaded this book the other day and read it over the weekend,, its a delightful read,, almost made me wish I was there !! Laugh out loud in places and very discriptive,, although the author seems to have a fixation with buckets and toilets!!I have only one small moan... it was not long enough.. !! Cheers!!

4.0 out of 5 stars very enjoyable! 8 May 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed this. It perfectly describes the anticipation of a perfect break , and then the utter frustration when all does not go to plan , followed by the occasional moment of bliss when everything falls into place. I felt very sorry throughout for the long-suffering Steph.
I agree with one of the other reviewers that sometimes the bad language is a bit much (especially the thankfully isolated use of the c-word - unpleasant and unnecessary) , but at other times it was actually very funny , and any other word would have been inadequate.
I would have liked the book to have been a bit longer with more descriptions of people and places , which I suppose proves that I liked it a lot!

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish 18 Mar 2013

The trouble with buying for Kindle, you don't always realise the size of a book. I was expecting a comprehensive and enjoyable european tour but read this disappointing book in under an hour.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Okay 23 Feb 2013

Not the best travel book I have read. It is all a bit downbeat and depressing. I don't think I would wish to book a VW campervan for a holiday after reading this book!

Enjoyable and amusing. Responded as a campervanner myself, but they are quite negative and there is a lot of moaning. Still should expect that from the title
