Review
It is written in a highly readable style, drawing the reader in to participate in a series of activities. Eight fictional characters are used in vignettes to illustrate various points, although I think many people will see a reality in these fictional lives . . . I think Next Steps in Counselling is a valuable text for those groups at which it is aimed. --Lillie Fennel, PSRF Newsletter, Vol 5, No. 2
It is . . . well constructed, accessible and personal. There are excellent chapters on questions and on ending. --Keith Tudor, Person-Centred Practice, Vol. 5, No, 1. 1997
(Next Steps in Counselling) follows a logical sequence from first principles, through a detailed analysis of skills, into counselling in practice. It can be used either as a reference manual by means of the index and / or accessing the Learning Grid on pages 8-9, or read sequentially In addition to the skills and theory, the whole is given life by a series of vignettes, personalities whose case studies are available throughout the text. There are also ample discussion points, interior dialogue or paper-based activities which should help participation take place. --Bryony Jones, Senior Health Advisor
