5.0 out of 5 stars Manic and inspired. 16 Nov 2012
Format:Audio CD
You simply have to have seen this band live to fully appreciate what a truly manic and inspired performer the 'man himself' really was. I was luckily enough to have witnessed S.A.H.B live at what was then the Coventry Theatre in the mid 1970's. Bought the album almost immediately and wore out two vinyl copies before being saved by the CD. Luckily their unique sound transfers well to disk. Stand out tracks have to be 'Gang Bang', 'The Faith Healer' and 'The Last of the Teenage Idols' (the full length version as for some inexplicable reason some releases edit out the vital rock & roll/doo-wop finale). The only slightly duff track being Vambo Marble Eye. Zal Cleminson is in my opinion a vastly underrated guitarist as is Chris Glenn on bass. Remains one of those classic albums even after all these years. Buy it, play it loud and enjoy as I doubt very much their kind will come along again?

5.0 out of 5 stars Next.... 12 Dec 2011
Format:Audio CD
Just had to get this album on remastered CD, The Sensational Alex Harvey R.I.P. Have this on the Samuri label as well as Vertigo, although the track listings are not in the right order on the Samuri version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensational Alex 5 Mar 2008
Format:Audio CD
Well, I can't believe that this band has sunk away without trace. This album is great, heavy, and fun. Alex is sorely missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your Dad kicken' out the jams!!!!! 24 Jan 2001
By simon crawford - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This was THE album I walked around Highschool with....cover out so everyone could see.. Alex's first. He took a good bar band called "TearGas" and turned them into S.A.H.B. Alex had SOOOOO much stage presence, but to me at that time (mid 70's) he was OLD...as old as my dad...but hot damn..he held you as an artist...this band ROCKED......Live they were untouchable Scotlands answer to Alice..everysong had you rivited to you seat..or ..up and screaming whateverAlex decided.I loved this guy so much i named my first son after him...buy the damn album.......

5.0 out of 5 stars Second best album after Framed 6 April 2001
By Ronald - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The best studio album of SAHB in my opinion is Framed with the awesome song Isobel Goudie. But Next comes next. There is no weak track on this cd. Outstanding in my opinion are the two longest tracks The Faith Healer and The Last of The Teenage Idols. Gang Bang and the title song are great, too. Many people say SAHB is underrated. I don't agree with that. Unknown yes. But I don't know a person, who knows the songs of the band and is underrating SAHB!

5.0 out of 5 stars Let me be your swampsnake 'til a real one comes along 30 Mar 2003
By Roy Pearl - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Stunning, and not a little bit depraved. The Sensational Alex Harvey Band's second album, "Next", is a 7 song masterpiece of attitude, swaggering from the unhinged, chaotic blues of "Swampsnake" into the singalong scuzz of "Gang Bang" and imploding into the stoner drone of "Faith Healer" - and that's just side one. The flip side features the AC/DC-on-crank of "Giddy Up a Ding Dong", the truly weird "Vambo Marble Eye", and the three part 50's-ballad-to-prepunk-bamalama epic "Last of the Teenage Idols". And sitting amongst all this madness is an empathetic, unlikely version of Jacques Brel's cabaret classic "Next". And it all sounds as daisy fresh as it did thirty years ago. A perfect pick for your next party in honor of debauched, wayward intellectuals praying for apocalypse.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of rock's best albums from the era....... 30 Nov 2003
By Scott Q - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Anyone who considers themselves a rock music historian or music intellectual had better have this cd/record in their collection. Every decade has it's memorable, must-have LPs. This is one of those releases. This is a great introduction to one of the most underrated bands of the last 30 years. You want something different? Something where your whacked out buddies are gonna say, "Who the Hell is this....it's great!!" Get this CD. And if it's unavailable here...find it!! It's that good. "Faith Healer" is one of the best tracks you'll ever want to hear, along with the wicked "Vambo Marble Eye". "Next" is a classic. Belongs in any mention of great 70s rock obscurities. And don't forget the naughty and humourous "Gang Bang". You like your music really different, with a little tongue-in-cheek, but with a brilliant deliverance?? Get this!
If somebody gives you a list of the best 25 releases of the 1970s, and "Next" isn't on it...kick him squarely where it's bound to hurt. This album is ICONIC......
