Product Description

Synopsis

This line was originally built to 4 ft 6 in. gauge, with rope worked inclines. The inclines were eventually eliminated and the route converted to standard gauge. It is impossible to write a history of the Dundee and Newtyle without also describing the branches to Blairgowrie and Alyth, whose operations were intimately linked with the Dundee and Newtyle, so their history from construction to closure is also covered. This title is presented in an A5 format with 248 pages of text including 53 maps, plans and drawings, plus 64 pages of art paper containing 125 photographs, printed endpapers, casebound and a laminated dust jacket.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely excellent, 3 Jan 2009
This review is from: Dundee and Newtyle Railway Including the Alyth and Blairgowrie Branches (Oakwood Library of Railway History) (Hardcover)
No- one who has ever travelled from Muirhead to Meigle, through the Glack of Newtyle could ever have done so without wondering about all the redundant railway embankments, bridges etc to be seen. The Industrial history of this area is fascinating and this book is particularly well researched, and replete with good quality photographs. For the railway archaeologist ( or indeed anyone interested in Local History) I can not recommend this book highly enough.
