5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Newtons Cradle 15 Sep 2010
By Trevor
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I previously bought one of the other smaller newtons cradles on amazon, it was nowhere near as robust as this thing. The old one broke after my brother pushed it off the desk by mistake (one of the nylon strings snapped). This one has a sturdy frame and base (most do not have bases) and the system loses energy less quickly than my last cradle (one of those silver stand ones with no base). This better demonstrates the principle of conservation of energy. If your a physics teacher and want to use this as a demonstration then this is the cradle for you. If you want it to just sit on your desk like I do, it might be a bit large (18 x 18 x 12 cm) if you have a small desk, but otherwise id still recommend.

the item i received was not as described in their advertisement of this product,it was a smaller cheaper version,i contacted the seller only to be told this was the only size they have!!!question---why then do they advertise another product which they do not stock!!this practice is all too prevelent when buying from online sellers and sellers should be brought to book for employing this practice by amazon,i cannot be bothered to return the product with the emailed pdf printable forms they sent me to return the item(i am disabled),they admitted they had made a mistake so why should the buyer be put out by the "mistake"they made,an email would have been welcome advising me of their lack of stock so i would have been given the option to cancel!

3.0 out of 5 stars Executive Newton's Cradle 22 Nov 2010
Durability: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
As graduate mathematicians, my wife and I were pleased our 6-year old grandson requested this well-known demonstration of Newton's 2nd law of motion for his birthday. We chose the largest one we could find on your website, but were disapponted to find it is significantly smaller than the claimed dimensions. We were also concerned to discover that the box caried advertising comments inappropriate for a young child and felt obliged to repack the cradle. That said, it at least works satisfactorily, with a good decay time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well made version 31 Jan 2011
Verified Purchase
Durability: 3.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 4.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I ordered this having bought a slightly cheaper version for my grandson for christmas - it didn't make it to boxing day it was so flimsy! I am very pleased with the quality of this product, it is substantial.
There's only so much you can do with Newton's Cradle but having said that, every time it catches your eye you have to play with it! My grandson has Aspergers and is fascinated by it. It is not however a toy for unsupervised play as the nylon cord will tangle and break with rough treatment.

5.0 out of 5 stars newtons cradle 12 Aug 2011

As an exteacher of phys/chem I like things that have "Talkability" about them, so this fits the bill.
It looks good on my mantlepiece and attracts people to it.
As most of my friends are also teachers of the sciences then this "Toy" fits in with them too.
The question that always comes out is
"That's good, what are you getting next?"
