Just because newton practised alchemy it doesn't mean we it must all be true 'just because he was Newton'. But neither is the other conclusion to which people jump valid - that he was brilliant in all these other areas but then suddenly sadly deluded in this one. There seems to have been something else going on with Alchemy that we have lost any understanding of in modern times- the turning lead into gold is a bit of a distraction.
