I started reading this amusing book hours after finishing the final book in the 'Girl with a Dragon Tattoo' trilogy. After three nights staying up until 4am reading the addictive Stieg Larsson novels, I mistakenly thought that 'News from the Nailbar' would be a book that I could at least put down. Annoyingly it is nearly as addictive. The book tells the story of the frantic two weeks leading up the opening of a London nail bar told through the emails of Rebecca Harris, a Bridget Jones type figure who really should learn to hold back on what she says in emails. The email traffic is as caustic and bitchy as one would expect and I think I will wait a few years before letting my daughter read this book as the language is sometimes realistically fruity. If you have ever vented your frustrations about a colleague, and then mistakenly pressed the 'reply-all' button, you will relate to this book as indeed you will if you hate the way some people use the c.c. function on emails to shaft you. Christy Powell is a natural story teller. Half way through this book I found a writing shop and purchased the best pen I could afford because it has put me off emailing for life!
