Single Unit - Additional Unit (all units send and receive so are interchangable). Must be used with at least 1 other Powerline Ethernet Adapter. Powerline is a fantastic idea where you can use the mains circuit in your house to create you own computer network. No need to lay new cables between rooms - use the cables that you ve already got. No more bad wireless reception or slow speeds. Powerline technology allows upto 85Mpbs of data transfwe upto 200 metres down you mains line. Simply plug the unit into any power socket (3 pin UK mains socket) and connect the ethernet port to your computer, hub/switch, router or access point. Plug in, connect ethernet cable and you're on line, it's that simple.
Couple of things to watch for though - these can be rendered dud by power spikes so surge protection is an idea (they do work in extension leads and four gangs). Also this speed will do for streaming audio and general internet but for HD video streaming you might need a faster connection type and if planning to mix and match speeds of home plugs; you may encounter compatibility issues so get advice before purchasing. The CD software is easy to install but I can't make it run on Windows 7 (even in XP mode) although it runs fine on XP. There are reports of homeplugs disrupting shortwave radio signals so if you are, or live next door to, an amateur radio enthusiast, it might be worth a chat before you buy although the high speed powerline units seem to be the main culprits and can affect DAB and VHF signals too. There is also some debate about the maker's claim that the signal terminates at the house meter - some online testing appears to disprove this theory so some knowledge of network security and file sharing might help you reduce any risk. The only way to be sure is to plug a unit in to your neighbour's house and see if you can connect to your network!

We already have a pair of Powerline Homeplug adaptors, which have been running well for a couple of years. We needed another for a laptop in a room where the wireless signal is a bit variable, so I looked for a third adaptor. The one pictured looked exactly the same as ours. When it arrived...it was completely different to the one in the picture. BUT...plugged it in, connected it to the laptop, and it worked instantly, no need to even run the install CD. Excellent.

I read carefully before buying this item and feel it should have warned that it may not be compatible with other similar products{I was set up with two orange homeplugs}. On the contrary I felt it did the opposite. When I subsequently went to a shop they said they normally were not compatable so why does it not stipulate on the product for sale online? Waste of my money and time.
