I was given this as a birthday pressie, I am impressed with the author's research especially with the earlier players, his evaluation of each player is impressive, well it is to me at any rate, it has brought some great memories flooding back and some regret that I never had the chance to see the earlier players, the best I can offer is I had Frank Brennans wife as a supply teacher. To have seen wee hughie, jackie et al must have been as good as watching Keegans sides of the 90s. He brings a very brief but at times poingant biography of each player, the common thread though is each players commitment and passion for the team that we as fans all have. They are the priveledged few who have given what we would give our right arms for and only dream about, who has not played in the park as a lad and not been Hughie, Jackie, Wyn, Supermac or Shearer.
An enjoyable read for any toon fan!

This is a great summary of Newcastle's greatest, but a paperback makes a poor gift compared to a hardback. For some reason it isn't linked, so I got my old fella the paperback, but wish I'd got the hardback now, which I eventually found here: Newcastle's Cult Heroes: The Toon's 20 Greatest Icons

Bought this for a friends husband as a Christmas gift. He was delighted with the content. Nothing better for a 'toon' fan.
